Madkin was worse running the option than Lee

that last play and thought damn, that looks like Lee running that play. Surely that was a run/pass option. There was no pitchman was there?

but I always thought he was a tad bit afraid in the pocket. He also seemed to digress his last 2 years (couldn't hit the broad side of a barn in the SC game after 9/11). That said, I thought he did a pretty good job in 99 & 00.

he regressed is because of ****** coaching. Jackie Sherrill was not exactly an expert at developing QB's.

Wayne could have been a much better QB with better coaching. Wayne was bad to get flustered and start pressing during a game and many many times Sherrill should have pulled him for a series or two and calmed him down , coached him and then put the ball back in his hands and told him to get back out there and kick some ***. It NEVER happened. Instead he would let the kid struggle and let him fail if he couldn`t figure it out himself. I personally made a point of watching this game after game after game. I loved coach Sherrill but he did an awful job with Madkin.</p>

but he beats hell out of anything we've had since Tyler (& that ain't sayin' much). I'm not including Mullen, since the jury is still out (but I've seen some promising sheet so far).

almost got Dan Marino drafted in the second round. Let that sink in for a second.

Jackie's QB development- or lack thereof was my biggest pet peeve that I had with him.

Until now.

That may be why we've had such a hard time attracting good QBs.

I think that we've attracted some QB's that had good potential- Todd Jordan, Derrick Taite, Madkin, Kevin Fant, heck, I'll throw Matt Wyatt in here, Omarr Conner, and now Tyler Russell.

But in each and every case, except for Russell who the jury is still out on, they were poorly developed.

All of those guys, except Wyatt and Russell for now, had the potential to at least play in Canada or be a NFL free agent. And in each case, something was totally screwed up.

Jordan- dethroned by Sleepy, didn't fit in Watson Brown's offense.

Taite- Too much weed. Now a drug counselor.

Madkin- Go to Hell Bin Laden. Solid until senior year when things started to hit the fan.

Wyatt- Not really a pro prospect, but should have at least been servicable starter by his senior year. Instead became relief QB and greatest pooch punter in SEC history.

Fant- The first "next Brett Favre" victimized by lack of o-line, WR's with stone hands, lazy RB's who pigged out at Barnhill's and smoked pot. And a defense that was horrible.

Omarr Conner- RS burned pointlessly during 2-10 season so that he could take snaps at WR. Then Croom tried to make him a drop back passer. Then Croom moved him BACK to WR. And then finally was moved BACK to QB.

..........came right before that and was very good of course.

Madkin not only was a good QB, he brought the bonus of looking like Chris Rock and having to take vocal lessons because he sounded like a girl when shouting signals. Colorful stuff.

I know this. Madkin, as a redshirt freshman, led MSU to its best season since, well, I guess 1941. That's nothing to sneeze about when your RS freshman QB takes the team to Atlanta for the SEC Championship game. Sure, JJ Johnson and a stout defense had a lot to do with that too, but it was Madkin converting those ridiculous 3rd and 18 and 4th and 15 plays late in the game against Arkansas that set MSU up for the game winning field goal. That to this day is one of the most amazing drives I've ever witnessed at MSU. That, and the 'CJ Sirmones wide open at the 15' drive against Ole Miss in '99.

God bless you Wayne Madkin. You're one big reason for the few great memories in MSU football.

don't keep us in suspense. Give us the answer. Off the top of my head I would guess UM (Archie, maybe Weese, & Eli). Only MSU ones I'd think would have a chance would be Reed & Felker. So give us the 411.

I don't think any of those guys had NFL potential. Except Tyler Russell. I think the lack of a person to develop QBs is why people like Jason Campbell went elsewhere. I think having Mullen and the other people on our offensive staff helps us a lot in this area. In ways that we've never been able to take advantage of before.
