I posted in another thread that only 2 of the top 15 ranked portal guys from last year were 1st team all conference and 10 of the 15 didn’t even make 3rd team all conference. Meanwhile, the transfer players on the consensus all American teams were ranked 13th, 20th, 22nd, 25th, 52nd, 69th and 296th in their portal class. The portal guys on the all SEC team this year were ranked 10th, 13th, 14th, 20th, 31st, 42nd, 52nd, 69th and 212th in their portal classes.
While it’s important to upgrade our roster via the portal to take that next step as a program, portal rankings are a wild card. Brandon Garrison is the highest ranked portal player we have signed and he’s probably pretty far down the list in terms of ranking portal players that have come to UK.
It sucks missing on guys, but I still feel good Pope will bring in a strong portal class in terms of guys who will be very good in his system. Add that to a strong recruiting class (which we didn’t have last year) and a potentially good returning core (which we didn’t have last year) and I don’t think there is a reason to panic.
What a TERRIBLE decision by him, if he’s wanting to actually get to the NBA. Would’ve been amazing in Pope’s system! WOW! Colossal mistake by this guy.
