Their player was the one that hurled the football at a Brookhaven player on the sidelines.so, why did Lamar get probation and fine as well?
LM,As someone that spent a little time in Brookhaven a few years back, this seems right on par. It is one of the few places I do not think I would ever want to set foot in again. No offense to the good people there, and I am sure my experience does not represent the majority. But most people I was around seemed to think their **** did not stink because they were from there. Which I never understood because it is just your run-of-the-mill small southern town.
I will pass on doing any hardcore thinking about Brookhaven. No offense, but the best part of that place for me was seeing it in the taillights on the way out of town. That being said, I tried to go out of my way in my first post to say I do not judge all the people in that area. That I was just giving personal experiences. I have met plenty of people from South Mississippi from places like Laurel, Wesson, Magnolia, Monticello, Woodville, Natchez, and others that are salt of the earth people. Also, is it not that way anymore? I was not there 40 years ago. My experiences happened in the last 10 years. I am sure you love the area because you are from there, correct? I am just giving the perspective of someone who is not from there, and got to see it without any bias.LM,
It is not quite that way any more; however, some of that element still resides and owns businesses/runs banks/etc here. I would argue that on this particular incident involving the injured player, the coaches and the opposing team's QB, the same would have occurred with most small private schools. Emotions were running high early in the game, and, as a former 20-year MAIS official, this crap got worse every year. To be blunt, the white kids were worse than the black kids.
Something to think about: what small town does NOT have people who think their **** does not stink? I mean, I live in Wesson-the house trailer capital of MS- and we certainly have our fair share.
Absolutely. Truly I work in the Ford dealership in Brookhaven and sleep in Wesson every night. My interactions with the locals are somewhat limited.I will pass on doing any hardcore thinking about Brookhaven.
