NIL...valid, perhaps, but honestly has only been a thing for a few years now.
Prior to that it was X, then prior to that it was Y, and if we fix NIL it will be Z.

CJF, good guy, good coach that just can't get over the hump to great.

Funny thing about NIL. It's not about the money, it's about which pocket the money is coming from.

We apparently have money for an $800 million stadium upgrade but don't have money for a $300 thousand WR or LB.

Think about it. Assume we could make it a $790 million stadium renovation. What difference would that make other than we'd have to give up the bidet in the men's room? Then apply that $10 million to NIL. An extra $1 million per year for the next 10 years. That would buy three $333k players per year for a decade.

Maybe but we have an $8 million coach whose team never seems to rise to the moment.

No offensive TDs! Marshall had 2 offensive TDs against OSU.
2 different arguments. No excuses for not scoring. NIL brings the players. Franklin will take the blame, and is ultimately responsible. But I'm not sure he was responsible for the play calling inside the 5. Many on this site seem to state an opinion and then assume it's true. "AK couldn't have called that series in the 4th quarter. Obviously, Franklin had his fingerprints all over it." He has stated many times that OC is the head coach of the offense and the DC is the head coach of the defense. Plenty of blame to go around. Most important job now is to not let 1 loss become 2.

Head covered - incoming

How do you propose we do that? Should we find a way to cheat?

First of all, PSU does not have $800 MM for a stadium renovation. They are seeking donations, will commit some money themselves, and will finance the rest. If some people choose to donate to the stadium and not to NIL. o_O, that is their choice. Some may donate to both the stadium and NIL. o_O . In any case, NIL. o_O cash money will come from donations to collectives.

PSU seems to need more NIL. o_O cash money to compete. I don’t know how they get it. It doesn’t appear to be a priority for many alums.

I didn't say we should cheat. I was simply saying it's not a matter of having enough money. It's a matter of which pocket the money comes from. It's a messed up system.

That said, wouldn't it make sense to try and encourage stadium donors to divert some of that money towards NIL? Do a $790 million and put $10 million towards NIL. Donors get the same recognition. Of course I understand that all donors wouldn't agree to do that but it seems worth a shot.

If I'm getting ready to write a check to PSU and they tell me "you know what, instead we'd like you to write a check to x for y", I question how much they needed that $ to begin with...the last thing I'd want to do is turn down donations that are going to pay for our stadium renovations.

I understand how it works. I'm just saying that if we had a donor willing to give $10 million towards the stadium I might encourage them to give $9 million to the stadium and $1 million to the NIL.

Bottom line is we win the game if we don't fire blanks twice inside the five yard line. That is the story. May also want to ask why our most productive player on offense was not used once in either situation. Giving CJF the benefit of the doubt here, but why in the world does one of the most creative offensive minds in college football turtle up when you have four plays from the three yard line? It makes no sense. And I'll add overturning the incomplete pass in the endzone to an OSU INT was ballsy. That evidence was very, very slim - certainly not what I would call 'incontrovertible'.

Still, can't feel too bad about this loss overall - but, it sort of resets expectations. One thing Franklin has to laser focus on is LBs and WRs.

It’s like, the school can’t find any football legacy to leverage. Can’t find a way to connect the older, wealthier alums to the program.

I bet their are a lot of long time PSU grads that are like me. I contributed about $30K to PSU football over the years. My contributions abruptly stopped when PSU decided to humiliate Joe Paterno. I won't give PSU a penny until the statue goes back up. I bet our NIL pot and our ability to attract 5-star recruits would increase if the statue went back up and the PSU big wigs apologized for mistreating Paterno.

What hump?
The 2 loss hump that has prevented us from making the playoffs.

I have high hopes for this year. Didn't expect to beat OSU. But we need to win out. I honestly think we are on the outside looking in with 2 losses.

Can CJF avoid that 2nd loss this year?
