Insane that we are in the midst of the best recruiting run in college history and we rarely lead for anyone , yet we sign most of them .

Is it possible that we don't lead for a lot of these recruits because they want to wait to see who leaves and who stays? I don't really pay much attention to who leads until the recruit announces their decision. I've also learned that when Cal is involved anything can happen.

Evan Daniels actually broke the story following an interview with Maker's guardian. As usual, Jones steals info and passes it as his own.

Anyway, the interview revealed Maker has plans to attend college (which wasn't a given) and to reclassify.
Who gives a s*it who broke it?

Isn't Maker projected as a Small Forrward in the NBA?

Cal might be looking at playing him as a 3 like Lyles.

PG Ulis/Briscoe
SG Newman/Hawkins
SF Maker/Matthews
PF Poythress/Lee/Willis
C Labissierre/Zimmerman

Maker and Skal seem like carbon copies ,tall (7'), skilled , thin players who prefer playing 4 vs. 5 ; In Maker's case , my sense is he sees himself as a 3!. They are unique in their skill /size combination. Both are more similar to AD or( John Henson) than to Dakari or WCS,. With both of them on the floor simultaneously, points would be as hard to come by as this year. The advantages of having two shot blockers on the floor simultaneously is devastating because the weak side big can play rover and get lots of blocks.

I would hope Maker's guardian can see what Cal did with AD, turning him into the first pick in the draft and helping him rapidly become one of the 3 best players in the NBA. If Maker does join Skal in the 2015 class o with Mathews and Briscoe and if any 4 of the group including Ulis, Booker,Poythress ,Lee,Brown and Newman join them, the Cats will start the year as #1 despite losing 5+ players to the NBA.

it is possible but unlikely . I think the centers will be Zimmerman and Lee for the most part and Poythress , Maker and Skal will be the PFs . SFs will be Booker or Brown and Matthews and Willis . SG - Newman Hawkins and Matthews and PG- Ulis Briscoe and Hawkins

Karl said many times in HS he had no intention of being a one and done. Why has everybody taken the position he is gone? Unless i have missed something I think he still intends to return.

Cal has changed the world or recruiting in a couple of ways since pairing up with UK. One of those is the fact that a number of 5 stars are wanting to come here and play together...hence the chance of a championship. Not too many years ago, 5 stars would maybe go to a good team, but they wanted to be 'the man'. Some still do, but Cal seems to be convincing more and more of them to come play with other great players. Of course the greater chance to get to the NBA with Cal doesn't hurt either.

But think of college recruiting classes before UK/Cal. I can only think of a few where a school had multiple 5 stars commit the same year.
I think you are correct. Right now we are 17-0 and players may want to pair up with other great players because they see what UK is doing. It only makes sense to play with other great players in collage to help you get ready to play with great players in the NBA. Cal is indeed trying to change the way of recruiting.

According to the crystal ball. I should have been more clear.
The crystal ball doesn't really matter until 24 hours before recruits pick their preferred school.

I asked the same thing a while ago because I didn't know much about him. General consensus from those who did is that he won't be able to play on the wing.

I never dreamed we'd start Lyles/Towns/Willie either, so there's no reason Maker can't be one of our three bigs next year.

Besides, never hurts to have insurance against a wacky NCAA ruling on Skal.

Jerry Meyer and another person on twitter agreed that Ryan Kelly is the best comparison for Maker

As it is, who ever gets Maker obvioulsy is only getting a taste of what he may become but if it is indeed Kelly that aint saying much at all....

No disrespect to jerry---I generally respect his opinion on such matters-----I think Ryan Kelley is a horrible characterization of thons game. I have seen than twice. I'm sure jerry has seen him more than that. However, I would say thons game is more durant-like. Sensationalism aside, thon and durant have similar builds, preferred facing the basket, and we're both very skilled for their size. Thon needs strength if he is going to play n the post. I watched Malik Newman take it to the rack at will on thon while thon was routinely moved around by smaller players. With that said, his skill level at his size is remarkable. I haven't seen anyone at his size with that skill level since durant. With the right coaching, some weight and strength, and a better understanding of the game I don't see why he could not be durant-like.

Please do not misunderstand me.. Durant is a generational talent. I don't mean to heap that kind of pressure on thon. He has a ways to go in that regard. However, thon is way more advanced than Ryan Kelley and he is a far better athlete for his size.. Again I respect jerry, but I think he has missed the mark on this one. Thon needs strength, coaching and the right conditions and I believe he could be very special. I have read thon has a great work ethic so he can be as successful as he wants to be. His skill set and athleticism won't be his limiting factors----like Kelley. Incidentally, at UK, with other bigs to protect the rim and rebound, I think thon would thrive!

Bullseye.... spot on....... line drive.....

Plus they can still cover on defense. I would never have believed it.

Yesterday was the first time I saw him play and like the commentator I'm a little concerned about his lower body. VERY skinny and I too wonder if his legs, knees, etc could stand up to the rigors of a schedule like ours. Is this concern shared among the program's recruiting him as well or is "7'1" just too much to pass on over being skinny?

Getting Skal AND Maker would be like if we had gotten Bowie and Sampson!!

That would/would have been amazing!!

I just hope he doesn't choose Kansas. It seems that we have been losing some good prospects to them, which blows my mind. There is no program in the country that is better at developing big men than UK.The list of elite big men coming out of UK goes on and on. This kids recruitment is probably going to come down to shoe company loyalty. This kid hasn't ever seemed like he is a real possibility to land at UK IMO. I know Cal is the man but he doesn't land every player. Bill Self seems to get a lot of help from Adidas, but who knows.

Yeah, he also tweeted out whoever compared Thon to Garnett / Durant should be ashamed of themselves.

Get Thon, Zimmerman and Newman to finish out the class. Poy, Booker, Ulis, Lee, Hawkins, and Willis return.

Back to back champions.

If that happened, one could make an argument that next year's team is, from a talent perspective, even better than this year's group.

Newman and Briscoe would be offensive upgrades over the twins; Skal and Maker would allow UK to continue their shot blocking strategy; Poythress would be a senior; Booker and Ulis would be improved and experiences. Zimmerman would give Kentucky a multi-dimensional scorer on the low block.

The key would be getting Newman and Booker on the court together. Do that, and opposing teams are going to have two potential lottery guards to deal with every night.

Booker ? Are we signing a new Booker again this year ? I sure as hell would NOT be penciling Devin Booker in any line ups at UK next year. Be nice, but not happening. He gone.

That's interesting. I've seen a lot of people compare Thon to Davis, and Davis is a great comparison for Garnett.
