Makes me wonder, why is Phil in ATL working out...

... instead of in Starkville working out with his team? Especially if he was planning to come back like he asserts.

Players go home thru the summer all the time. Going to ATL isnt any worse.
Why does a player have to be on campus during the summer? Sure it helps players get to know each other and all, but why is it a defacto requirement in some people's eyes?

Just like everyone on our team is here EXCEPT for Phil. Even Dee, though his decision making was terrible, came right back and started working out with everybody else once he realized he wanted to try and appeal.

His high school coach has been telling people he was headed to Europe all summer. Saying he will probably be playing somewhere in Italy. I think he was unsure about wanting to leave, and he told some people he was and some he wasn't. I think when he got the letter it just angered him so he did the mature thing and went to facebook with it.

How can Phil afford to be in LA and ATL working out but can't afford one semester of school?

This ^^^. <div>
</div><div>I like Phil a lot. But some of the details arecontradictory. I'm not sure what the true story is. Probably never will know exactly. But if Phil was coming back after talking openly about maybe not coming back, I'd think he would have tried to talk with his coach a few times since March. Don't you think? If I were considering not returning and I knew my head coach knew of those considerations AND.... I had decided to return I'd make sure to let him know. Especially when my [former] team is trying to sign a player from UTEP and might have our PG returning. Heck, the decent thing would be even if I wasn't returning to let him know.</div><div>
</div><div>But on Stansbury's part, I think if I were the coach and I knew there was a player maybe/probably/possibly leaving the team early, I'd make sure to be in touch with him as well.</div>

Thats insane. Players go home all the time. Bost was just at home last week.
Summer school isnt required. The players who have done that SCORE religious basketball thing(Turner did it back in '07) overseas arent at school in the summer yet they arent tossed off.

I just cant wrap my mind around a coaching staff assuming a player isnt coming back when the head coach hasnt even talked with the player in 3 months. Who the hell goes off of rumor?!?! Thats nuts.

When a player misses a couple meetings, you suspend them from a few games. Thats the appropriate response. You dont assume he is isnt on the team anymore, especially without speaking to him first.

... and you've been telling people you are not or might not return, how hard is it to let your coach know for sure?<div>
</div><div>I wish the best for Phil. I hope he and Stansbury go fishing and talk all the issues out and he gets to nail some deeeeeeeep three pointers next season. But I think he could havealleviateda lot of this.</div>
