There is a rumor going around that Malcolm Johnson tore a pectoral muscle, had surgery this morning, and is out for 3 months. Can anyone confirm this? Sucks if true, because he would be out for Auburn and it lessens the time he and Russell have to gain chemistry together.

Thats half the season. Plus he would miss 3 months of workouts and conditioning. He would need to redshirt or else provide a useless half of a season

Seems like it happened in a scooter wreck. I understand that is half the season, but sense we don't play most of our tough games, with the exception of Auburn, till the end of the year, we may not really miss anything but his lack of timing with Russell. Thank you Marcus Green!

Let's just hope that after all the injuries, Green can be at least close to as effective as he was before.

Either way, he wouldn't be very useful after such a layoff. This would virtually be season ending, or damn close to it, if true. Green is better than what we would've had, but he's a completely different type of TE and doesn't do much to account for this loss. Damn this sucks if true.

I thought they were both Tweener's, a step slow to be true wide receivers but not big enough to be blocking tight ends. I thought Greene was just bigger and stronger and therefore at least somewhat useful as a blocker. I know he didn't exactly perform to his ability the last time he was healthy, but at one time, his hands looked great and I thought he was fast.

Am i thinking of somebody different? Or just wrong about Greens' athletic ability?

really our only BIG targets this year for Russell are Johnson and Morrow. Pectoral tear seems kind of a strange injury for a scooter wreck but such is our luck.

an inch shorter yet heavier, he's slower, and doesn't have near the hands MJ has. MJ can stretch the field and has shown an ability to catch the ball in traffic. Green had several huge drops last year alone. Green brings us more in the running game and from a blocking standpoint. MJ is more of a receiving weapon.

It's not a threat to our season. That is a position wher we can afford an injury. Id rather it be MJ than ANY OL. In fact out of all our starters, there's probably 18 that I would hate to see go down before MJ.

Johnson, along with Morrow and Lewis, is as close to being a "difference maker" in the passing game as anyone we've had under Mullen. We have some depth at TE, but he is unquestionably the best receiving TE on the roster. And in case you haven't noticed, we are going to throw the ball more than we have been.

With the exception of Morrow, we basically have an army of slot WRs. Johnson is the only other guy we have who can go up and get the ball, and he has shown a knack for getting open. We were counting on him to play a big role in the passing game this year, and now he may be lost for most of the season.

Green sucks, and Hill isn't as good as Johnson. Warren is still developing, and he is more of a traditional TE than a H-back/receiving threat.

but I think (hope) that was abnormal. Thought he had the best hands on the team at one time (not that that would take much, but still good for a TE). I also thought he was fast prior to the injury.

Maybe I'm thinking of somebody else or maybe I somehow picked up a scouting report from Gene's page that exaggerated Green's athletic ability.

This injury won't be one that affects our W-L record like the OL was last season. Everyone has injuries, I'd rather it be him than many other starters. Will it change our gameplan some? I guess, but we still have weapons such as Lewis, Morrow, Clark, etc. and a RB core that will get those WR favorable matchups.

It's not as bad as the "major blow" and "massive blow" like some of you hysterics are making it out to be. We win the same amount of games with Malcolm as without.

If somebody actually uses a scooter for transportation, that doesn't bother me. I'd prefer our scholarship athletes use cars, but I understand that a scooter can be more economical and at least on campus, more practical. But I really hope we aren't losing key players b/c they're 17ing around on scooters. First, it's emasculating to lose someone to a scooter accident; at least do your 17ing up on a motorcycle. Second, the players four seasons to play. Do they really want to risk 17ing up a whole or part of a season so that they can screw around on a scooter?

Most people will be pleasantly surprised with Brandon Hill. Very similar player to Malcolm Johnson. Hill made a slew of crazy grabs during spring practices. Losing Johnson will definitely hurt but not like most think it will. Remember the name, Brandon Hill

He could make amazing and difficult catches and then go full derp and drop the ones that hit him in the numbers. I hope that if Johnson is really out that Green will be a bit more consistent.

"We win the same amount of games with Malcolm as without".

What a stupid comment. It could be true, but it could easily cost us a game or two also. just depends on when and against whom he (Green)decides to drop some passes. I know he had some back-breaking dropped balls last year. He almost cost us the LaTech game. dropped a 4th down pass against Bama. I believe he dropped a ball against Auburn and SC too (both close losses). I could be wrong on specifics, but i remember being pissed several times last year at some of his drops. At least Bumphis does it on a first and 10 flare.

As far as "big picture" - it could have a pretty big effect. You have two legitimate down the field threats. One goes down, that's a big deal. I'm not saying this moves us from 8-4 to 6-6, but to act like it's not even possible is just close minded. As someone else pointed out, Brandon Hill may step up and we won't miss him at all. But if we're relying on Green, we may be disappointed.

Guys, does this suck? Yes. But, he will be back for the meat of the schedule. I just don't think it is as big of a deal as some here are saying.

is this just still a rumor? And why do all of our athletes ride scooters? I saw a picture tweeted of Nick James on one.

Am I crazy, or is this like the 3rd time hearing about a SEC football player injured on a scooter in the past couple of years? Just seems like a horrible idea.

I felt like everything was leaning towards Malcolm being a key cog in our passing game this season. Marcus Green or not, this is a huge injury. Maybe I'm blowing it out of proportion, but he is one of the last guys I would want us to lose for half of this season.
