I don't think this was unexpected. I was hoping he would leave. Arkansas should be pretty good on offense again next year.

Alabama - nothing needs to be said
Arkansas - Petrino + Mallett + the young talent = improved even more than this year
LSU - Big talent and a seasoned QB
MSU - Offensive improvement + young talent everywhere + not many losses = improvement
Auburn - Yet to be seen what they can do without Tate and a proven QB, Newton will help
Ole Miss - loses whole team and their experienced QB

With or without Mallet, Arkansas was going to probably be the No. 2 team in the West, or at least have a good say in who is No. 2.

Arkansas will have to find a defense if they are going to finish 2nd. They were last in the conference in total D. No way in hell without Mallett, but it's moot now.
