Within minutes of the announcement that 16-year Texas head coach Mack Brown was resigning on Sunday, ESPN commentators were promoting Auburn’s Gus Malzahn as a potential replacement.
More than a week after Malzahn signed a letter of agreement on a new restructured $26.85 million, six-year contract extension the night before the SEC Championship Game, Malzahn was once again a leading candidate be the next head coach at the University of Texas.
Malzahn attempted to debunk any perception he was interested at other jobs Monday afternoon.
“I’m a good fit for the Auburn Tigers, that’s why I signed the contract the day before the SEC Championship,” he said. “Like I said before, I’m tickled to death to be here.”
