Then look for Auburn to fall flat on their faces next year. Malzahn is an offensive genius. Chizik is supposedly a defensive-minded coach which doesn't say much considering how horrible they've been defensively since he was hired.

Without Newton, his scheme does not have the magic that everyone was raving about after last year. </p>

In 2009, he took Auburn to I believe the 3rd best scoring offense in the SEC with basically the same offensive talent that bombed the previous year and got Tuberville fired.

In 2007 and 2008, he had Tulsa as one of the best offenses in the country.

If you didn't notice Malzahn until 2010, you weren't paying attention.

The fact that Auburn has had any success this year after losing Newton and basically their entire OL is just another credit to Malzahn. Let's say you had Newton last year. You lose maybe 1 or 2 games at most all year and you probably rack up 40 points per game. Then you lose him this year and go back to Relf/Russell along with losing some key contributors on your OL, you'd take a huge dip too.

No team is going to not miss a beat after losing a once in a lifetime player and most of their OL when they have a run oriented offense like Malzahn's.

And what he did at Auburn in 2009 compared to 2008 is really impressive.

The dude is quite the offensive coach, and you're quite the moron.

only a dumbass wouldnt recognize the that even crooms could have moved the ball with cam newton-
using your rationale- Ball State, Northern Ill., Toledo, and Western Mich all have offensive geniuses. </p>

And if you look at how horrific Auburn's offense was the previous year (and Todd looked terrible for the most part as well), the transition was quite impressive.

His stock is not where it was after last year. If he wants to get the big payday he should go ahead and do it. I just do not think that he is a head coach anyway. He seems very quirky to me. He does not seem like he has the personalitytobe the leader of the program. He will always be able to find a job as an OC.

Tony Franklin in the back every chance they got? Malzahn is a good oc but i'm not sure what he will do as a hc especially when he is going to a school that should be getting hit w/ probation beyond their self imposed b.s.

I didn't watch the games, but it has been brought up before that he doesn't seem to have the ability to generate a lot of offense against better competition. I guess time will tell, but that conference might be much better suited for his system than the SEC West.

They are both good offensive coaches, but need a little more talent to run their system than the air raid guys. Mainly because they both still emphasize a power running game, which requires a pretty strong OL. <div>
</div><div>When they get their players (Cam Newton) or a very good OL in Mullen's case last year, they are tough to stop - same with Chip Kelly, he just has tons of athletes. </div>

i don't think his stock went anywhere between last year and this year. last year there just weren't many attractive openings for a OC without CFB HC experience.

lots of teams have struggled against lsu. <div>
</div><div>also, our D ranks pretty high nationally (top 20 in alot of cats), and they carved us up. they had some injuries (like us) and haven't been about to get going again.</div><div>
</div><div>finally, he didn't have trouble putting up points on the better competition last year. (yes he had cam, but we can go through a long list of good OCs and during their best years talk about the great players they had and in the weaker years talk about how they didn't have any great players)</div>

And that's sort of the problem with OM hiring a guy like that. The talent will never be good enough to compete against the behemoths in the West.<div>
</div><div>Your example of Mullen is right on point. Even last year with the talent you mentioned I think MSU averaged less than 20 ppg in conference. This year it's obviously worse. Bottom line is that the schedule year in and year out with the coaches that are currently in the West is unbelievably hard. They know that defense is where it's at, and they have the ability to get the players.</div><div>
</div><div>And the foregoing is not a jab at Mullen. He's obviously done a good job. Point is that it's a tough environment for even a good coach to be successful at a high level.</div>

Agree about Mullen too, but I still like him as our HC, I just wish he would bring in a new OC with an air-raid background to compliment his expertise on the ground.<div>

I'm too lazy to look, but I believe we're 0-4 against Malzahn's offenses.AU 3 times and AR 1 time. Good riddance.

Back in the day a writer for the Vicksburg Evening Post used to predict SWAC games as 99-98 typical SWAc Shootout. Were those coaches in the SWAC Offensive geniuses or was it they all ran fast high powered offenses that put their best playmakers on th offensive side so the lack of a breather on the defense made the game turn that way. I think Malzahn is an offensive genius but you put him in a conference that plays defense with above average talent he will be above average at best, much like Mullen. We gave up more yards rushing to UT Martin than Alabama. Is UT Martin a better running team?

Ole Miss in disarray
Auburn without an offense
A&M not really a threat (imo)

There's 3 west wins next year! Plus we pick up Tennessee in the east hopefully who has yet to win an SEC game this season and drop UGA. I already like our schedule next year.
