Looking around some oftheirsites, everyone of them have gone into fulldefensivedismissal mode. If it was so bad why do they care so much? I expected a little bit of blow back but nothing like it is. Insecure much?<div>

I'll preface this by saying I don't surf many sports sites, so I've only seen Nafoom's reaction. Obviously, I can't speak for everyone's reaction to this nor would I want to.

In the article, you have copious use of stereotyping, lack of an accurate understanding of current state issues, not to mention the timeline problems that your board has already mentioned. He demonstrates only groupthink and boosterism, which you might want in the diehard fan (it's demonstrated quite well in the responses posted to the article), but do you really want this from a faculty member at MSU?

I would be horrified if one of the professorate at OM had written such an article; I'm embarrassed for you. If I were his chair, I would seriously question his ability to lead a class at a research-based institution. If this is what you consider appropriate behavior from a faculty member, I can't help you.

It has nothing to do with being a "fan" and being a professor. It's wonderful that he's a fan, goes to games, and is active on campus. In fact, I think that if it were written by Gene no one would have batted an eye, but the fact that such hogwash (and that's what it is, be it written by someone from OM or MSU) was generated by one of your professors is shameful.</p>

You seriously question his ability to be a professor based on some article he wrote to inspire other MSU fans to be as pumped up about MSU as he is?<div>

Thanks for the insight into why the real people of Mississippi broke away from thearistocratic elitesin Oxford & formed their own university.

Your ******** sounds exactly like something that would inspire a real working man to break off from the pamperedshitheads in Oxford & create a people's university.

cheerleading article written by a guy that loves his school and job can be so annoying to the liberal art elite. I think what Sid is saying and by the way he speaks for thousands is that they are growing tired or the bulldawg uprising and really prefer the good ole days of pre 1970 and the early 2000's, they were in a much better mood then.

Who cares what you think? It is a shame that none of the professors in <Rule 18>feel as strongly aboutTSUN and her Bears!

Your overreaction is also nearing the absurd. It's the offseason andhe wrote an article for a website that is populated by fans who demonstrate groupthink and boosterism for MSU, he at least knows his audience well. If he were a teacher of Sports Journalism perhaps I'd care.

And for the record I'm embarassed for youin your pedantical use of the word'Professorate'. Especially when you should have said 'Professoriat',I'll assume your iPhone auto-corrected your spelling.

If I had a student above the 10th grade turn this in as an example of a persuasive essay, I would fail him for factual inaccuracies, lack of critical thinking, and relying too much on anecdotal information that could not be proven to make his point.

That's all well and good if you're Chuck or Gene or Yancy or Paul...but it's kind of pathetic for a professor. But what do I know? I'm just one of those elitist high school teachers who sleeps on a bed of hundred dollar bills.

*19th century college in Oxford, MScreated by sons & daughters of slave owners, politicalsycophants of Jefferson Davis & richwhite supremacists who were so eaten up a feeling of aristocraticentitlement, theydeclaredclass warfare on the poor whites of Mississippi.

*Poor whites in Mississippi said, "F*ck you, Oxford!" & began their own agricultural & mechanics college in Starkville.

*To this day, the white, pampered elites gather in Oxford while the real working people of Mississippi (and beyond) gather in Starkville.

How's that for critical thinking skills.

I've honestly not seen it spelled much without the ending "e," but, without looking it up,you're probably right on this one.

I would like you to tell me the latest on farming and literature, though, and since you are all bookfarmers, perhaps that won't be a problem.

Whit has an undergraduatedegree from a very well respected liberal arts college and a law degree from your alma mater.

I guess ifhe had you for 10th grade English, he might of ended up at Ole Miss for undergrad.

the only way I know it was a quality article is bc the black bears are coming out of the woodworks to disapprove of it. Take out your tampon, its a care-free article to fire up the fanbase, not a 17ing wall street journal article dumbass.

He won't be fired immediately, but if he's in a tenure-track position and comes before the review board with less actual professional publications than he should have, he'll be in hot water for producing such drivel.

Assuming he is, he'll be held to a standard for professors and their professional expectations more like mine than yours.

I planted my Grandmother's set of Harvard Classics but so far nothing has come up. Maybe it's the wrong type of soil, maybe the soil istoo bittersince I fertilized it with a composted copy of 'A miracle of Catfish'. Perhaps they are just waiting for the ending.

It's an article on a sports website, not a professional submission of some type of academic work. Believe it or not, not all professors spend their free time scratching their beards on top of their academic high horse. Professors are allowed to be fanatics too. And if you think they can't, 17 you for thinking professors are better than the rest of us.

it is a good example of the elitism that he wrote about. You should have just written "Mooooooo", which I'm sure was your intention, and be done with it. It's always funny to me that a school that was waving rebel flags only ten years ago can promote themselves as being so forward thinking. It's almost as funny to me as your adoption of Faulkner who was obviously no fan of the white upper class for whom your school functions.

It would be far more accurate if you would have argued that the plantation elite mounted a rhetorical and physical supression of slaves and their descendants by employing the poor whites against them.

However, it would be wrong to extend this to the OM/MSU rivalry because, primarily, the plantation elite of Mississippi considered out-of-state higher education far superior, preferring the Ivys, UVA, and Sewanee, and, secondarily, because the poor whites of the 19th century weren't going to college.

It's just your own state history. Why learn it?

Which speaks to the Irony that U of M islocated in Oxford as a concessionto the non-plantation powers centered around the Columbus areas request to formally establisha State University away from the Natchez power base. Ironically UM was located by the historically accurate 'Rednecks'. Which of course means that Ole Miss in fact a Redneck School (just kidding).

I'm curious if the desire for Ivy League and OOS state schools was a result of the final siting of U of M away from the old Jefferson 'Versailles of the West' College? Or was it prevalent prior?

Just promise me I won't turn out like you if I do learn it!

Now do I have to learn it the way that you interpret it or can I learn the truth?
