This season up until the last two games the first half they have played off our wide receivers and then got physical in the second half. The last two games it started physical the entire game. With this physicality has become a reduction in completions.

That being said there has been a whole lot of interference and GS needs to be all over the refs because calling that would change the dynamic

I wouldn't call 70% completion rate and 359 yards yesterday a reduction but that's just me.

I get the Oregon game was a disaster but 63.2% for the year is pretty good. Heck, you can't but if you could take away Oregon, AK's completion rate is 66.5% His % is actually higher in the 2nd half.

As Ru-baby said they are throwing the ball around 4.5 attempts less in the 2nd half.

Here's what I think Oregon did..

They came out in Pass D.. worried about our WRs. They grabbed and held onto them many times.. playing man, largely because even though they had a Pass D look of 6 in the box, some DBs were helping run stop right from the snap and their superior speed on D allowed that.

So, they did not want us to pass.. so they gave a look that said Pass D, we audibled to run, but they are committing to run-stop while holding onto our WRs.

Very effective.,

We never run slant and go
we couldn't get separation because they attached themselves to our guys.. and If it wasn't a health hazard to watch a replay of that game I'd suggest watching and slowing it down.. the number of times their DBs literally were grappling a handful of jersey for much of the route.. it was incredible.. that is was not flagged often was a crime against humanity.

Bet illinois will try exactly what Oregon and Washington did to the receivers, especially after Duff’s big game. GS needs to get ahead of it early in the game and raise a ruckus about interference because it seems they are calling it on a curve with strong and stuff being such big receivers they’re allowing a lot of physicality which changed those other games. would not be surprised at all to see Illinois start being very physical just to see whether it gets called and if it doesn’t, they’ll continue on getting a call early would change the tenor. It would be a huge positive step for ru in their chances.

Illinois doesn’t have the athletes the other two have. Really need Ian Strong back.

What amazed me is that the refs believed Purdue was such a well-coached team they only committed one infraction the entire game which we declined. This isn't the first time either that we've played one of the best coached teams in the nation. It's quite strange that Refs continue to see infraction free teams when playing against us.

RU isn’t a 11.5 pt underdog to Illinois because of how the WRs are defended. They are a 11.5 pt underdog because the defense can’t stop a nosebleed (so to speak).

But if the wide receivers are not interfered with, would we not score enough points to mask some of the defensive deficiencies? So yes, it is a very relevant factor although true if the defense could step up a little bit, it would make a difference that all being said we need the wide receivers to be able to make plays and while I’ve never been a fan of complaining about the refs, from the Washington game on, there has been very little interference called when there’s been a lot of physicality applied to the receivers. To repeat again if we were to get a call in the first quarter it may change how the game is defended and called going forward.

Yes it’s amazing the 5th most penalized team in the B1G had no penalty yards on Saturday.
