Marcus Dupree...

I just watched 30 for 30 on Marcus Dupree "The best that never was". Great film. Marcus played high school football in Philadelphia, MS. Anybody see him play or know anything about his story?

a recruiting trip he was already driving a Mercedes Courtesy of Oklahoma . Knew then he would never step on campus. Had a bunch of friends with him they all looked like thugs.

I have not seen anyone that good since. The ESPN piece was a quite good portrayal of the way it was then with Marcus.

I was enrolled at USM when Marcus disappeared from OK. I was exiting the registar's office and couldn't leave the building due to the press conference to announce Marcus had been found and was enrolling at USM. I stood in the background on the steps and was on the national 6:00 news. The 30 for 30 program had a short clip from the press conference at USM however the footage shown did not show me and my sweet mullet. He was driving a Cadillac Eldorado while at USM.

Dupree's much-anticipated sophomore season did not turn out as planned.
Hampered by injuries, Dupree gained 369 yards on 61 carries with three
touchdowns in the first four games of the season. After suffering a
concussion in a loss against Texas, he vanished for a week. When he
resurfaced in Mississippi, he announced he was leaving OU and
transferred to University of Southern Mississippi. Told that because of NCAA rules, he would have to sit out the 1984 season, he left after three months.
