One of my favorite players when I was young…
That is very sad. I hung with Mardye a few times while at MSU and he was always very nice to me even before I became a name at State. I remember the Buick Riviera he bought with his signing bonus. Truly a gentleman and great guy.
I was at Memorial when he caught that 60 yarder from Bond against LUS to break their back. McDole, Young, Haddix, Bond, et al. Great memories.
Damn. Great memories of him as a player and person. R.I.P. Bulldog.

For years my golf buddies would call me McDole because I was a State fan and my first name rhymed with his first name. Always when I hit a good shot. Kind of silly but it was a compliment as it equated to doing something good like MM.

My favorite player growing up. I’ve still got a letter he wrote me in response to me writing him one first. Was not necessary and most prob wouldn’t have even thought about it. Getting a letter from a Miss. State football player as a little kid, then being my favorite player, just made my childhood! Sorry to hear this…RIP 88!

He was a little before my time at State, I remember seeing his picture on the wall at the Pizza Hut there. RIP, Legend.
