MCC is announcing their new head coach tomorrow afternoon, any rumors on who it is? When it is found out tomorrow afternoon what is the future for MCC? I'm looking at you Stump! Gonna be having a tough time in the ESCC no matter what

Not gonna lie didn't see this one coming still not sure how I feel about this to be honest. You won't find a bigger fan of mike than myself but I'm also a big fan of Dirk Stanger as well so.....

Maloney is the new HC

That's really saying something coming from you edgy, you could call me biased cause I played for him but man I feel like how can you miss on a top head coach candidate that was in the program!?! Not sure what to think of this hire

Dirk Stanger did a good job for the Canes for alot of years but the new AD wanted to bring is someone from outside the Marian family and I get that. Mike Maloney started slow at Johnsburg but has brought them back to respectability with a first round playoff win in 2014. Mike also left a Johnsburg program that was picked by many locals to compete for a 2015 title. So he must have really wanted the Hurricane job.How can you go wrong with a JC grad. As far as Stanger don't be surprised if he ends up at CL Central as HC. Appreciate all Dirk has done for the Canes and best of luck to both.

Man did Bulaga blow that up or what? Someone better let the AD know his highest paid alum might not be sending a check this year. And I know Bulaga follows closely. He attended a Montini-MCC playoff game on his off week a few years back.

I honestly don't think the AD cares if Bulaga or any of us alumni approve. The AD is going to do what he thinks is best for the program and we need to support the decision. Though most do not agree with his decision of not hiring Dirk the administration also had to way in on this decision knowing that it would be controversial and approve the new coach. Not all educators hold the football program at a.high school at the level that most of us do. Many thought Dirk was the heir apparent which he probably was under the last 2 ADs. Being the Head coach at a successful program such as Marian comes with some very high expectations from its alumni, hopefully they will be as competitive as we have been accustomed to.

My heart just got ripped out again, this is worse than all the Montini losses put together! I would have feel better if Marian would have closed its doors just like Driscoll did than what just happened! For the new coach, yah I guess we have to give him a chance. However, is he the right guy? He has been in 4 different schools in 7 years! Loyalty? His win loss record already on the loss side 44? That is over half of the resigning coach had in what, 40 years? He turned around Johnsburg wich was good, however, did anyone look at the conference they played in this year compared to the last 2 years! A comment on twitter said that he would be used to the big boy conference because he played for JCA? How many times has JCA beat Montini in the last 5 years? All this is, is a power play by the AD and Superintendent to knock the football program down so it will never become bigger than the school!

I am with you Stump ! Through me for a loop as well. I think most thought if they did not hire Dirk who is an alumni and was instrumental in the success at Marian under Brucker and was referred by Brucker and many former players for the job. MY God he has only helped develop 4 D! quarterbacks as well. I thought they would at least bring in a coach with MORE credentials than Dirk and that did not happen. I was hoping for a coach with a proven track record if not Dirk. My question is why not Stanger? I guess just a case of when your EGO gets in the way and you want to put your own mark on a program.

I don't know much about the situation so my question could be off. If there is a need to go into a different direction (expecting different results) why would you hire a person under to current system? A different direction mean new personal right?

Tiger, You are actually very right! The question is, what is the direction they want to go? Look at MC's record and who they lost to the last 6 years. This was one of the best schools in 5A? So what direction do they want to go?

Ya I understand what people are saying with needing a new direction, but I think a lot of people don't realize the make over dirk stinger would have done at the lower levels and even the varsity assistants. I think there would have been a few changes that would have benefited the program and that could have made this a state championship team. Also, if you do want something new couldn't we get a retired public school coach with success to do it like a Bruce Kay? Or even an assistant at a high profile program? One winning season because they go from the FVC to the Big Northern when the consistent power R-B is having a down year and you can't tell me marengo harvard GK and burlington are gonna give that great of competition. Nice story having a winning season for the first time in forever, but take a deeper look is it really the coaching or is it luck and conference realignment

Not saying a state championship team this year because there are some weak classes coming up, but in the future. And one thing I know about the past staff is they got everything out of there players potential!

Just heard from another source that what they were looking for in a coach was not one with football success in mind. The new coach, 1st had to be compliant with the staff and administration controll, 2nd with the rest of the teachers, 3rd football. They want the program to be competitve but not championship status. They have the public school thinking that everyone gets a trophy! Don't get to the top of the mountain because you might fall down the other side!

They must not want any money from alumni anymore, because they sure angered up almost all of the alumni. Doesn't seem like the smartest thing with a school that thrives off of donations from alumni...

You know what this sounds like rage when you say its his decision and we need to support it, it sure sounds like our great man in charged Tom Landers when he said, "Just be a good catholic and keep your mouth shut and go with it," doesn't that sound pretty familiar Stump??

I dont know anything about the guys who didnt get the job, but I have great respect for the guy who did get the job. I have coached with and watched Mike Maloney coach and I believe it is a great hire for MCC. Mike is a great teacher, coach and motivator. He knows x's and o's and does a tremendous job relating to kids. He is a fantastic role model and MCC is lucky to have him.

Give the guy a chance, you will be happy with the results. I really don't think it is fair to say that the football program is dead before he has even coached a game.

I know many people who would love to have him in Joliet once Dan Sharp is done!

I don't doubt that he could do something with MCC but pardon my ignorance I am interested to hear what has he done to receive this credit, because the way I judge a good coach is wins and losses, and I see a whole lot of losses and not too many wins. I just find it hard be happy with results if the future because the results in the past are not good results

The administration for years has tried to put less emphasis on the football program and it doesn't work because the school is rich in football tradition and has a solid alumni base that will not let that happen. Maloney will need the support of all to have a chance to succeed so as much as we disagree with those in power we need to get behind the new coach and the team.The AD has been quoted as saying the job at Marian was a lifelong dream for him coming true. It has been a nightmare for most. Ask the folks in McHenry how it worked out for them.

No coach in the state of Illinois would have won games at Joliet Central, talked to him a few times down at the games in Champaign and came off as a great guy..

He was the head coach at Joliet Central for a number of years, which was/is an impossible place to win. I watched him as an asst at JCA for years, and he was tremendous.

Rage, I'm not getting behind him until the present administration is GONE!! When it comes to the alumni base the superintendent's plan is working because I have never seen this much uprising. Even the OL coach firing from a couple of years ago didn't make as much of a dissruption. From what I can tell this thing is alumni and parents of all ages wide. I also just found out that the school is debt free from a recent donation. So do they care about alumni money, probably not. They will stomp on the alumni for their own gain and controll wich they have done by this hiring.

Stump, Nice of you to dust off some of your money and payoff the debt. Give the AD 3 years and he will be gone to a administration job at the IHSA he is tight with the gang in Springfield. People are upset as Dirk is a huge part of the Marian community but even he knew the odds were against him to get the job. Dirk will land somewhere and do a great job I am sure. We cannot blame the new coach for taking the job he needs our support. As far as the administration is concerned never been a fan.

As I stated earlier, I would be more than happy for him to replace Sharp when Sharp is done. I just find it interesting that a bunch of people who no virtually nothing about the guy want him out before he has even coached a game at the school.

USDA, You don't get it. Its got nothing to do with Mike! Its about the guy who should of got the job and the administration who doesn't want the program to be successfull in our definition of success. The only thing I wonder about Mike is how fast will he jump out of MC if the JCA job does open up. If Mike is guilty at all in my argument, it is by association. I already respect him for giving up something to come to a private school. However I would be totally impressed if he pulled his acceptance and stay at Johnsburg where he's got something going and already have players that will run through walls for him!

I have to believe JC has their successor on staff already. Their current DC has been groomed for the position for the past 3-4 years by having significant responsibilities on both sides of the ball and he will be a perfect fit whenever the time comes.

Haven't heard anything to verify that, but would be shocked if that wasn't what was going on. Maloney knows how to lead a program. This is his fourth program in under a decade though, so I wonder if he plans on settling down somewhere anytime soon.

Well it's done now and it is seen that unanimously dirk should have been the guy, but Maloney welcome to Marian Central and the expectations that come along with and they are high. I'm glad he is a nice guy and I wish him luck and I want to see my alma mater do well, but just remember just being a good guy won't stop the critics and trust me there are a lot of critics no matter who the coach is.
