St. Ignatius in 2008. Joliet Central 2009-2011 (although 2009 was all underclassmen as the JT program slowly split into two). Then Johnsburg. Now Marian Central. That's a lot of moving around. It will be interesting. This is the first job he's taken over where I think there is an expectation of instant success, at least among the fanbase if not the administration, so it will be fun to see how that plays out.

Having coached at the high school level for a variety of sports, wins and losses isn't a fair way to judge wether a coach is a good coach.

At the end of the day wins and losses don't really mean a damn thing, the positive impact that you have had on the student athletes is the most important role the coach has.

Head scratcher for sure!
Schocker for sure!
Was there a committee that interviewed all the candidates??
Was this a one persons's recommendation?
I just don't see the Alumni letting this go??

Some of the JCA fans have tried to lay out MIke's coaching stops.....so I'll leave that alone. As I posted when the hire was announced this was a surprise, more from the standpoint that MCC had a terrific assistant coach already in the building in Dirk. What I know becomes an issue with schools and administrators is having a coach in the building which I know Dirk is not. Again not making any excuses but that had to be an issue in the hire.

Also Mike is a terrific young HC with a big future. MCC made a very good hire in my opinion and I'm sure Dirk will also end up helping someone sooner rather than later.

Edge, Its not the person they hired, its how the administration handled it, how they dumped on their alumni! I have a feeling that the new coach is going into this thinking it will be just like a head coaching job at JCA or Montini when I know it's not. On a plus note the one thing he's got going for him is that he is the present AD's hire and he should go easy on him. When it comes to having a coach in the building I do know that was an issue. It's interesting that they created an in school position for the new coach and they didn't do that for any of the other canidates. Politics at it's finest!

Stump, what do you mean by that? I know each school is different, but as a program, why do you feel that MCC is so different from JCA or Montini?

USD24, The reason I say this is because I'm sure that coach Adrianno and coach Sharp can run their programs the way they want to as long as it is in the guidlines that the school puts out there. I'm sure they do all the hiring of assistant coaches and what not to be a successfull program. With the present AD at Marian its his way or the highway. Unless the AD changes his tune, the new coach won't have the freedom to run his own prgram the way he see's fit. The AD laid that out in the job description that he will hire the assistant coaches and put them in charge where he feels its best. You have to remember that the last coach didn't retire, he resigned! I know what the head coach went through the last 2 years!

I don't pretend to know a thing about the new guy and, this, cannot comment on whether he will or will not be successful.

I can say that the way that Stanger was handled was completely and totally disrespectful. His father coached at the school for nearly 40 years and Dirk has been there over a decade. Whatever criteria they tried to espouse for their new coach, apparently bleeding red and blue for the full 39 years of your life was not one of them (On the other hand, apparently trying to see how many different schools you can stop at and lose along the way was).

Ultimately, the administration has tried to make it about "being in the building". Administration has known for years that Stanger has made professional AND personal sacrifices with the goal of being the next HC at Marian in mind. Knowing this, how about telling him 2,3,4 years ago, that he will not be considered in absence of a teaching degree? Give him this common courtesy up front and he could have chosen whether he wanted to pursue a degree in education. Better yet, create a position for Stanger (the guy that has been standing on the sidelines at George Harding field since he was in diapers) like they did for the guy with the revolving door resume.

Well said brew crew. Unfortunate for Dirk. Dirk did an excellent job coaching at the school he is an alumni and made many contributions to the program he helped develop 4 D! qbs but caught up in the AD trying to show his power .An alum my self and life long supporter of the school I like many are very disappointed on how this was handled. Not very Christian like.

Rage, from what I can tell the AD and the new principle are basically running the school. I think we will know more about the direction of the school real soon.

Remember that school that was really good in football and joined 4 other schools from their conference to promise another conference that they'd all join together. Then after all the divisions and schedules were set, they broke their promise, pulled out and joined yet another conference?

Someone help me out here, who was that?

Stump, the world is not ending with this hire. Your are posting with the ferocity of someone who is certain Mike won't succeed...

I'll put it this way, had there not have been a supposed successor in place, this would be a great hire, and MCC would be lauded. Instead, you are now putting a new coach in a bad light already, and not sure that's fair to the team, players, coaches.

I don't know the person who did not get the job, but I know this: Mike is a good person first, a coach who knows football, and a coach who will care about the kids on his team. If you are close to the program, I suggest you meet Mike and support him. If you are not in that position, I suggest you watch closely and you will say what I write as true.

As for the JCA Montini comments...not sure they are relevant. But if MIke was on a team that none of the recent Montini teams would have beaten, IMHO.

It is clear from your posts that you are mostly upset with the AD. If that is the case, I suggest you focus your ire there, while supporting the coach...it's not like you hired a bad coach - maybe just not the one you were hoping for?

It's not the same school that dropped 81 points on someone and onside kicked when up 70 is it?

I really want to see video of this. Both sides seem convinced on their positions. Maybe even bring in Brinkus from Sports Science
