Mark Richt as OC?

"ATHENS, Ga. (AP) — Mark Richt remains interested in another coaching job and said Monday he will listen "to anybody who has interest in me" as he prepares for his final game as Georgia's coach.
.... he spoke with passion about the chance to coach again and to have more direct involvement in coaching quarterbacks and calling plays."

It sounds like he would be willing to consider a coordinator position. Do you think he would consider UK? (long shot) Would he be a good hire?

I'd take him on as OC in a heartbeat. If Stoops wants to play at a certain speed to slow the game down and make things easier on the D, then he doesn't need an air raid guy here...he needs someone who runs a pro style offense. He's trying to force a square peg into a round hole and the offense is failing miserably. Richt did a helluva job as OC down at FSU before taking the Georgia job. I have no doubts that he could do so again. That said, I think he'll get much better offers than UK, likely even as a HC. There's a bunch of schools out there that would be tickled pink to go 9-3. But yeah, I'd love to bring him aboard if we had the opportunity.

During his press conference today he left the door open to coaching, and the way I heard it he might rather be a coordinator. Said he really missed hands on coaching and calling plays. I think he would be a great hire if UK wants to get away from the spread, if not probably not so much. But he is a very good recruiter, good man, and good coach.

There's absolutely no way this happens, but I will say that Barnhart and Richt are friends.

Interesting. I would imagine that for those who have a genuine love for the game and teaching might prefer being a coordinator over a HC. As HC, one has to be responsible for managing everything. As a coordinator, you get to handle your specialty and not have to be bothered by every single aspect of the program. That would have to be a lot more fun and much less stressful. It probably explains why you see certain guys that prefer to remain coordinators and not take that next step.

Open the bank for Pelini and Richt to be our DC and OC. I highly doubt they'd be here for more than 3 years so if we ever want to make serious money off of football... throw head coaching money at them .

BTW, I bet Richt would remember he has a stud TE on his roster and figure out a way to get him the ball.

Jesus christ people get your heads out of the sand. Richt is going to get numerous head coaching jobs. And even if he would prefer to be a coordinator, I would bet the bank he will be standing next to Les Miles. Why on earth would a big time coach like Richt want to be the OC at kentucky, when he could do the same position at somewhere like LSU and maybe win a national championship?

Supposedly, Richt is talking with Maryland tomorrow. Would be a good landing for him - and likely a high-paying one with Under Armor money...

This ^^^^^^ what the hell is wrong with UK fans, asking would you take this guy. HELL YES. are you freaking kidding me UK should be on the phone yesterday. I mean he would probably never come here but you gotta call. I made a post a week ago joking about UK calling Les Miles and some fans responded with no way I wouldn't want him. Are you out of your freakin minds of course you would take him, he's a national title winning coach.

Richt has won 10 games per year for 15 years as a HC. His is not going back to a second fiddle OC for any school much less at UK. Right is open to HC offers. He is a Rich man and he has a nice buyout for UGA. He is in no hurry.

Think Eason is likely headed to UF, but he might follow Richt, and thats a serious answer.

Richt said 5 schools have contacted him, Virginia, Missouri. Miami, UCF and Maryland are the supposed schools. Eason might follow him to either of them, don't think he sticks with us but he is waiting until he sees who is hired as OC before decommitting, but I think he is as good as gone.

You are right, he doesn't have a track record as a horrible person, job abandonment, adultery, etc. He doesn't have to play second fiddle anywhere. (Look we can both take cheap shots)..

I wouldn't say he is "likely" headed to UF. He's going to visit to have a fallback plan in case we go spread. Obviously, firing Richt puts his commitment on shaky ground, but I think it's still more likely he ends up at Georgia than anywhere else.

He will be a head coach somewhere. Georgia fans may not have been satisfied with his teams getting close but never quite reaching the top of college football but darn near every other school would take that in a heart beat.

That times 10...i laugh when i see some of these comments

It really tells a lot about the posts you read on here that folks are actually floating the idea of hiring Richt as OC and pelini as DC. Are they really that stupid or just young?

Pelini as DC makes infinitely more sense than Richt as OC. I know a lot of people are reading too much into Pelini being on the sideline, but he has close ties with the Stoops family and could be open to such a move. Richt on the other hand will be a leading candidate at a lot of these schools now finding themselves with an opening due to their coaches moving on or maybe even one of the current openings. Temple has an opening, Memphis has an opening, Tulsa has an opening, and those are just the ones recently open. If Richt takes an OC job, it will be at a major P5 power or the NFL.

This. I believe he might opt for an OC job instead of a head job but it will probably be at a major power or an NFL team.

The dude was just fired. Maybe hire him for a WR's coach, but not an OC.

I have mixed emotions about the whole thing. I think he did a pretty good job, I know he isn't the best coach in the country but the list better isn't a long one either. He was good for 10 wins, with occasional 11-12 win season and occasional 7-9 win seasons. I like him as a man and as a coach, but the competitor part of me wanted more and 15 years is a long time to spend at one school, maybe it was just time to make a change. But the next coach has big shoes to fill, and according to what we are hearing has been given things Richt wasn't, so maybe winning has become important at UGA, hope so anyway.

But knowing a change was probably coming, when it was announced I wasn't thrilled about it, kinda stunned a little. I hope he does well where ever he ends up, classiest man in college athletics, yeah I know my opinion is a little biased but I believe that.

I will say that I agree with the people that say to give him a call. no one on this board knows what is in his mind. He might want to consider UK as OC..You don't know..Maybe he and Mitch are friends..You don't know..there are so many arrogant posters that just criticize when someone suggests something like this that it makes me ill. These boards are for discussion and if you don't want to add something constructive to it, then don't post anything..
Grumpy thanks for posting here. I like what you reported and would love to see him come here as OC.. We are in dire need of a good hire. Dawson is not the answer.

He is supposedly in miami interviewing today, turned Maryland down, turned down an interview with six because he didn't want to coach in the East. Someone said his wife told him to take a year off.
