He will keep everyone home in the Miami area. It just got a lot tougher to recruit south Florida. It just got tougher for Florida and Florida State. It may even impact UGA and Alabama.

The same Mark Richt if he had taken care of business in Ga would still be coach. He did not attack recruiting at Ga and he was always losing 10-15 guys a year to Aub, Bama, UT, Clemson, FLa, FSU, S. Carolina.

Mark Richt was dismal in keeping the guys in state in Georgia. Those Ga high schools are a lot different than Miami schools, Ga High schools are pretty docile compared to what goes on in Broward and Dade Co.
Richt if he had attacked recruiting in Ga would still be there. Don't see him changing that much. He will get his share but he is not Saban when it comes to attacking recruiting. Guess time will tell.

That was my biggest complaint against Richt. If he had put the emphasis on instate kids that he did on other kids he would still be in Athens. Lots of Georgia kids with NC rings who went to UF, AU, Bama and even tOSU. Sign 25 of the top 40 in Georgia every year is all it would take

In business they say the most important thing is a harmony between the culture of the organization and the key people who run the operation. Unfortunately, I cannot imagine an odder couple and a less-likely union than a classy, well-respected and ethical coach like Mark Richt fitting well in the loosey-goosey, free-for-all, see-you-at-the-club culture of the U's athletic programs. I'm not looking for a world-beater from Coach Richt at Miami anytime soon. We'll see.

Richt will likely have some success recruiting South Florida. It is the single biggest hotbed for high school football talent in America. That said, "da U" is not what it was 15, 25,or 30 years ago. And though he played there, UM and the area are not congruent with his image and personality today. There will be a player here and there which UF and FSU miss out on from South Florida, but they will get theirs. The biggest impact if Richt is successful will likely be some of the other schools from out-of-state losing some of their inroads or pipelines, but most likely it will affect the quality of recruit they have been getting. Miami can still only take 20-30 guys each year.

Richt will do well at Miami but the reality is he will have minimal effect of recruiting for UL or UK in Florida. UL recruited well in South Florida under Strong but other than the year they fired Shannon and hired a Golden Miami has recruited really well in the area and neither UL or Uk got many players he wanted. Under Petrino UL still recruits Florida but really has signed more players fromi Georgia and Alabama.

If averaging 9 wins per year over 15 years and consistently putting together top 10 recruiting classes isn't getting it done, what, pray tell, is? Richt did extremely well recruiting the state of Georgia. He just had the courage to kick knuckleheads off his team and not recruit low character kids, and then they'd wind up at Auburn or Louisville.

Really, is their a more underachieving program than UGA since 81. I mean they have not been a factor in any NC talk except 3 years ago when they lost SEC championship game to Alabama, most people felt like those were two best teams. That is it.

They have lost tons of talent in Ga that should have stayed there. No winning 9 games a year is not great at UGA, they should be just like Bama and be in the conversation every year, the East is not as good and they have better recruiting area and resources. Mark Richt did ok but I understand the UGA fans, they expect more and deserve more. He was very underachieving, he was Tubby Smith at UK.

RIcht did not attack recruiting like he should, too many guys getting away, too many guys not being offered until after Bama, Aub, Clemson and others offered. Needed to attack it and he didn't. Just look at the top recruits in GA the last 6-8 classes. Just not great as UGA needed.

Georgia's got exactly one more national championship than Kentucky. Why the sense of entitlement from their fan base? Richt's done an excellent job at Georgia, and represented them with class and dignity. College athletics is about so much more than winning a national championshp. I'm sorry you don't see that.

I think you can ask most UGA fans and they all say he is nice guy and would want him as their coach but the real fact is they want him more like Saban and Urban, they want someone in the talk of NC's and maybe winning SEC East while UT and Fla have been down for years. You make the point, he was a nice man and wonderful human being and family man but UGA fans want more and they deserve more. I would rather have NC's with him but if he can't do it than it is time for him to go and quit the underachieving. UGA should be Bama

Why do they deserve better? What in their history makes them like Alabama? Vince Dooley underachieved for about 25 years and they were ok with it. Take away Hershel Walker and Dooley is Mark Richt.

Because if you took all the names off every team in SEC than UGA job would be the best in terms of what you are looking for.
Home state Recruiting- Check
Facilities- check
city- check
proximity to Fertile Recruiting areas (Fla, S. Carolina, N Carolina, East Coast) check
SEC- check
Fan support and support- Check

They have underachieved for all but a 3 year stretch with Herschel, understand. Think most UGA fans are sick of it and deserve a lot better. It is the best job in SEC minus the Tide and it's status. This is a premier job and it should be in hunt every year. No excuses and UGA fans know this.

Hope the Canes are a threat again. I always liked when they were competitive. Also, Richt was one play away from playing for the national title a few years ago and finished #2 in 2007 and would have played for the SEC title game against eventual champ LSU if we didn't choke against Tennessee in 4OT.
