Is there anyone here who would rather have Schiano than Mark Richt, if both were in play?

If the school is willing to spend Schiano money, I say just go a little higher and get Richt. Do that, and the school can put the football program on autopilot for the next ten years. Proven coach, proven recruiter, runs a clean well disciplined program.

Agreed, I just don't see him coming up North to coach. Even though the rumors are Butch Davis, I'd be surprised if his alma mater doesn't kick the tires with him.

Dudes born and raised in south Florida, and played at the U

He's a southern dude through and through.

Guys like him and Strong aren't living up north.....jmo
The chances of actually getting him may be tiny, but if you are RU you must look into his interest because he is the biggest game changer on the market.

I said this in another thread, but you have to make a big run at Mark Richt, if for no other reason than to show people that you're serious. If you immediately restrict your search to the MAC flavor of the month and guys that just got fired from other schools, you'll get a lot of "Same Old Rutgers" eyerolls.

funny, always reminded me of being in the same GS mold.

I agree with this. Both would run a solid program while disciplining players who step out of line while winning 8, maybe 9 or 10 games in the B1G East. RU would typically lose to Ohio State, Michigan, and Michigan State just as UGA typically lost to Florida, and South Carolina.

The Bulldogs are 9-3 this season but beat only one FBS team with a winning record. Richt will coach Georgia in its bowl game.

Talk about playing NO ONE.

This Northeast or NJ connection requirement is complete BS! If it was so important then why do big name coaches with no Northeast roots consistently eat our lunch in recruiting?

We need a coach with stain!

Right. I am not saying he takes the job. But if you are serious, and willing to spend, don't you absolutely have to reach out to him?

I am just asking if anyone would prefer Schiano to Richt, and so far, no one has said they would. Richt is in the same mold, and a better coach. If anything, he was too clean to hit the top of the SEC. Isn't that just what Rutgers wants??

He basically becomes Kirk Ferentz. And I can live with Kirk Ferentz.

remember when Schiano wanted to eliminate the Kickoff after the Eric tragedy? Richt was the one coach who came out in support of that move..(not that I agree with the move but just found it interesting parallel back then). Heck, maybe he would expand the State of Rutgers to Georgia?

I've met Richt in Atlanta about 5 years ago. He is a tremendous guy with a huge personality - great reputation as a guy who really cares about his players. He would absolutely jolt the NJ recruiting scene. I would take Richt or GS in a heartbeat and feel great about either one. GS recruiting in the B1G could be fun. State Penn's nightmare scenario - Franklin can't win big even with big-time recruits.

Richt could happen for us. Who would have thought that Tubberville would end up at Cinn.?
