Don't be fooled, we have gaping holes on a very young defense in the SEC. I see no chance of stopping the run in the SEC again. We don't have the talent yet still.....

Our LB corps is extremely young and has virtually no SEC experience.

I like Ware , Elam and a couple of others, but we don't have enough to compete in the SEC on defense. Get ready to see our defense get decimated in the SEC again. Or worse, watch UL score at will in the 4th Quarter again on us.

I'm all ears if you can prove me wrong with evidence our Defense will be much better.

We won't have a great D. But to imply isn't upgrading is incorrect imo. Net, will we stop top SEC O's effectively? No. Will we stop middlin SEC O's - MO/FL/SC/V/MSU - enough to have a chance with our O? I think so, yes. Is that situation competing? You tell me your definition of competing.

I guess it depends on if our O-Line can actually pass block well enough to take advantage of the limited amount of stops we can get on Defense. At least you're admitting we won't be world beaters on Defense. I'd be surprised if we're much better on D than last season. It is what it is....

Once again, Wins and Losses will largely depend on our Offense being able to outscore teams in high scoring games since our D won't be able to stop many in the SECn because of lack of talent/seniors on the D-Line and LB corps.

And I really believe losing Hatcher is HUGE. I really believe he alone could be the difference between winning 1-2 games in the SEC. He would have been very good this season and played solid mostly last season. He was a future NFL player we couldn't afford to lose on our thin D and it's a shame he doesn't possess any common sense and he's that stupid to ruin his career.

Huh. Recruiting yea and you have nowhere to go but up after joker was here so I guess it's true. I just don't feel like it's that much upward. But a little bit I guess. He's an atrocious in game head coach IMO.
So you admit that my post is true and then change the subject. Good job. I think anyone paying attention would agree that you are an atrocious poster. Stoops coaches like Saban compared to your posting.

Well, the D lost us the LV game. But it didn't lose us the FL/AU/V games. Net, even if we're as good on D as last season, an improved O can carry us to a couple more wins imo. I'm counting on Gran & Co a lot. Hatcher is a talent, but he was on/off the field over his three years & so I don't think he'll be as big a loss as you do. Certainly he's a pain that won't have to be dealt with. I think the LB's can pcik things up pretty quick.

Your post was true because it doesn't get worse than Phillips. As far as stoops coaching ability, its pretty woeful. Choose to bash me if you want but that doesn't make what I'm saying any less true. Stoops has NOT proven to be a good coach YET. In any, way, shape or form. Does that make me a bad poster? Nope, not at all. Most realistic people aren't going to agree with you if you think stoops has proven to be a damn good coach. Believe it or not if we have a really bad season (which is definitely possible) then his seat will be very very hot.

Your history of making bad posts makes you a bad poster. You are changing the subject anyway. I'm not making the arguement that Stoops has proven to be a good coach. What I am saying is that the program is better now than when he took over.

Yea. Obviously. Could it get any worse? I'm pretty sure my 7 year old nephew could've got this program in better shape than it was when joker left. Idk if that's something to be impressed by or what. And history of bad posts? Lol I'm actually very realistic. I'm a die hard fan that doesn't see things thru blue tinted shades. Sorry if not being a homer makes me a bad poster in your eyes.

how in the heck did the defense lose to ul. I saw a game where the first half all we had was defense. 2nd half got worse when we couldnt get a 1st down and the D got worn out chasing 1 man. That was no more than a poor game plan and no change of D when they made their QB change..... Dont blame the kids, All of that belongs on Coach and I love him for what he has done for my team so far, but that has to be part of the game plan, What If........

So you admit that Joker was a disaster but you also believe Stoops should have beat sec teams with joker recruits and freshman? Have you ever played football? When you mix joker holdovers and young inexperienced depth you should win 3 games Stoops has won 5.

I'm saying this based on some of the most horrible in game coaching decisions I've ever seen in all my years of watching football. Countless numbers of times this season, thru out every game stoops would make a call or do something that was just simply astonishing. Things that would just blow your mind away. Things that you would never think you'd see at this level of football. As far as in game head coaching goes. Of all the SEC coaches who have coached a game as a head coach right now. I feel like Stoops is by far the worst. I hope he proves me wrong but this previous season (with a roster of mostly his players) was simply disappointing and sad to watch at times. Team looked completely unprepared and unmotivated on many occasions, the coaches never ever ever made adjustments whenever the opposing team would switch something up. Literally not one time this entire past season did I see an in game adjustment made at halftime or anything. And I've never seen that in all my years playing and watching football. I

I think he's in way over his head to be honest. Many others here don't feel that way. But i sure as hell do. The recruiting is great and it's going to set the next coach up just fine whenever stoops is gone. So I appreciate that aspect of it as long as we make the right hire next time (assuming stoops doesn't pan out). But recruiting isn't the only part of the game. You gotta coach the players too. Player development has not been what I feel like it should've been to this point. Not even close. Just how I see it. Don't have to agree but you should definitely be able to understand why someone would see things the way I do regarding coach stoops. Maybe he does fix it and right the ship. But I don't have much faith in his coaching ability at this point and it seems very unlikely to me that he becomes a very good HC in his career.

All coaches make bad calls. Difference is some teams have a bigger margin for error. Everything people have complained about Stoops fixed. We have a special teams coordinator and Stoops fired a oc after 1 year to bring in a proven coordinator. Not much else Stoops can do but keep recruiting.

These fixes need to be seen on the field before anyone proclaims anything as fixed. I will admit though firing Dawson was an absolute must. I was definitely canceling my season tix had Dawson returned. And him firing people doesn't necessarily fix his own issue of not making any adjustments during a game (a head coach's responsibility a lot of times). And horrific game management, clock management. I don't think he prepared his team very well at all going into games, he definitely doesn't know what the word adjustment is, and they also looked very unmotivated at times as the season went on. These are things that you put on the head coach. These kind of things are where the head coach gets fault when failing and praise when succeeding.

Margin for error has nothing to do with his team coming out and many times look uninterested. And him allowing Patrick towles audible out of a run play from the one yard line to throw an INT in triple coverage. Or giving the OK to run the ball up the middle 3 straight plays out of the shotgun at the one yard line when you need one yard to win ultimately win. Or calling a timeout to save 5 yards on a punt then acting like you just did something great, then during the same game not calling a timeout to save 5 yards on a field goal, then end up missing that field goal by inches. And when every team made the adjustment of going to a read option offense. Stoops never made the very simple, proper adjustments, to stop these plays. These are all situations in which stoops failed miserably this season. Regardless of margin for error. And don't get me started with his very hypocritical statements that he made before the season, compared to what he said after the season. Screams that he's in over his head.

And his post game talks where he was an excuse machine. When questioned about horrible, inexcusable, play calls 'if the play had worked everyone would be calling me a genius'. Well duh! That's not the question though the question is why did you select a play call that gives you almost a zero chance to succeed? I don't like how he carries himself during the heat of the moment and I don't think he handles in game coaching very well during the heat of the moment in the slightest. He lets his emotions get the best of him and sometimes I think he lets his emotions get in the way of logic. A very bad trait for a HC to have. It's as if something pisses him off, and he lets it effect the way he coaches the next 2 or 3 plays. And since he seems like he's always pissed off during a game this stuff seems to happen quite frequently. Creating a snowball effect amongst the team.

A lot of our problems this season wasn't just the assistants that it seems like you're placing all the blame on when you said he fixed all of his problems by firing the terrible assistants he hired in the first place, a lot of it is on stoops himself. Whether you refuse to believe it or not. It's not always the assistants faults when the head coach is sucking. Sometimes, but definitely not all the time like you're making it sound. Not even half the time is it the assistants fault. More times than not its the HCs fault. And the circumstances I had just brought up. Are basically all the HC's responsibilities, and in those situations that were on stoops shoulders, we absolutely sucked big ol *** this past season. Things you can't blame on the assistant's even if you wanted to make them the scapegoat, and if you've ever played a down of football in your life you'd realize I'm correct as far as what the HC's responsibilities during a game are, and how miserably he failed in those areas. A very direct correlation between his coaching performance and our teams performance during the season. Sometime's we were out manned. But even when you're outmanned you should at least show interest and act like you want to be there instead of rolling over and letting unranked teams humiliate you. There's a difference in being outmanned. And not even competing. And many times this season we didn't even compete. Our team had no fire in them. A reflection of the HC. Who many times seemed clueless/lost during games.

Watching to much msnbc much?...94 million people out of the workforce, but employment is 5.5%..new common core math

Unemployment is computed the same way it always has been. America is getting older and older and look for that number to keep going up. Retired persons, stay at home moms, young people etc have never counted. You think they computed unemployment at 40% in the 60's when women hardly worked?

Its you that wants to change the metric, and your comment about common core math indicates that it's no suprise. Nothing is funnier than idiots who don't understand math above a basic level attempting to judge teaching methods that other countries have used to far exceed us in math and science.

I like your optimism, but how do you expect a brand new LB corps to "pick things up pretty quick" in the SEC? Don't you think that's very unlikely? We're talking about the SEC; not a place where you want to enter a season with a brand new LB corps.

I thinks Stoops and Eliot will struggle again to get stops because we just aren't there yet with enough talent/experience on Defense especially the D-Line and LBs.

Saying that, I really like our secondary and think that's the strength of our D.

Yes, I agree the pressure is REALLY on Gran to get us one more win. We HAVE TO get to 6 wins this season or Stoops should be sent packing. I really think he's had enough time to get to 6 wins. Is that asking too much? I don't think so....

We disagree on talent. I think the overall LB talent level is up. Talent - speed, strength, instincts - overcomes inexperience quickly. Certainly can't be any worse at reading the read option than last season. None may be the equal of Westry at DB, but he was money from the first play; i.e., experience isn't everything (but preferred). Maybe we're reached that stage with others at other positions. We'll find out. JMO.

Talent hides a lot of coaching mistakes... and lack of talent will make good coaching look God awful. I watched stoops absolutely rip some guys coming to the sideline. Got to think they didn't do what they were coached to do.

Your view of Stoops as a HC is a joke. If I was a mod, I'd probably ban your whiney a$$ for the way you constantly disrespect and namecall the program and coaches. I'd rather a coach have a little fire in his belly than just sit there and take crap from officials all game long. Your take on Stoops is so wrong it's as if you just landed on this planet and watched your first season of football last year. Another great bball fan who thinks they know what they're talking about.

What games did you watch this last season? Your take on my take is absolutely comedy. Do I need to review the hypocrisy of Mark stoops quotes this past season that PROVE he's in way over his head? If you would like me to I will. Just because you have enthusiasm for a coach who hasn't proven a damn thing as far as coaching ability goes doesn't mean you're not in for a disappointing season much like this last previous season. My take on stoops. Couldn't be more true. In areas of the game that are responsibilities of the HC. Stoops failed miserably at, you can't dispute that either whether you like it or not.. Yea I agree I want him to lay it on an official too. But he doesn't stop with his sideline antics. They drag out.

Pretty sorry "upward trend". Tell that to the millions who have simply dropped out. Beginning in mid 2017 you will see what an upward trend really looks like.
Millions? Not prone to exaggeration are we? Honestly, we are all frustrated, but none more so than Coach Stoops I suspect.

That excuse just doesn't get it anymore.
This will be season 4, time see some results of major improvements in support for the program.
Coach Brooks dug us out of the probation years with much much less to work with.

It's time to meet expectations.
Well. If you can't see the progress in everything that as transpire o this point then I can't help you. You just want to be negative for negative sake. Take a minor step back last year. Yeah I will give you that was it because of an inept OC. Who knows. He has taken care of that problem. This year we make a bowl plain and simple. I suspect you will be along the whole season making snide remarks or when we have success saying things like should have been there last year or two years ago.

Look your boy the Joke r is gone. Things are better and will only get enter here on out.

It's hard to get excited
We've been bad for 50 years with some teams under Curry and Joker that had no chance at a good even decent season. Even as negative as some of the fans are being about last year we had close losses to Florida Auburn and Vanderbilt from winning 9 games. We return a huge talented secondary have more speed on defense than my entire life time and return 10 of 11 offensive starters. If you think it is hard to get excited well then quit watching UK football. We have had way worse situations in every season but 2 since I've started watching football 27 years ago.

Yeah, bigger, faster, and stronger was particularly noticeable in 2012 and 2013.

Joker's first year we had TWO four stars (both JCs) that played, while our eight SEC opponents AVERAGED 38 four star commits the previous four years (minus Vandy, but including MSU and Ole Miss), PLUS five stars.

Anyone that can't see the clear and undeniable growth in our talent level is------well, I guess in denial would be the nice term, but then it is way too nice.

From the guy who performed mastery level mental gymnastics trying to convince us all that Joker was recruiting and coaching at a higher level than we were all giving him credit for (en route to a 2-10 season, nonetheless), this is especially rich.

From the guy who performed mastery level mental gymnastics trying to convince us all that Joker was recruiting and coaching at a higher level than we were all giving him credit for (en route to a 2-10 season, nonetheless), this is especially rich.

So, you think playing the game with TWO four stars on the team is OK when SEVEN of the SEC opponents AVERAGED close to forty on their roster. Brooks worked wonders with the talent he had, Joker wasn't up to the task, but still upsetting a top ten team with a HOF coach and coming within three points of Cam and the NCs should impress anyone with a brain.

Joker actually out recruited Brooks ON PAPER, but Brooks worked miracles with mostly two stars while MOST of Joker's top commits bombed out for various reasons.

But I think there are very solid and self evident reasons for UK's decline in football while the rest of the SEC was emphasizing football, mitch or whoever controlled the pursestrings was doing a terrible job supporting football, how can you possibly justify spending LESS on 25 commits for football than about four for basketball (pre Cal). How can you spend about the same on the basketball operating budget for 85 scholarships as for 13 in basketball?

Have you seen the picture of the incredible "recruiting room" for football (incredibly bad) that was in use throughout both Brooks and Joker's reign?

And at 5-7 we were two plays away from losing 9 games.
Yea the offense was atrocious we should probably fire the OC lol. We DID win 2 and 3 games a bunch in my lifetime with no shot at inprovement in sight. Unfortunately we don't play in the ACC where mediocre teams go bowling. You have to be a top 25 caliber team to win 7or 8 games in the sec. With the mess Joker left 2 full recruiting cycles is not enough time.

Why should I quit watching UK football because I think it's hard to be excited? I'm done with coach talk. I think UK could be a good team next year but excuse me if I'm not singing their praise in March.

I hate to be this way but the years of disappointment have brought me to this phase. We are a sub 500 team and that is what im going to expect until these coaches or the next coaches or the coaches after prove otherwise

Your right I over reacted to your post. I just want to have a good football program. I don't think some fans realize the mess stoops inherited. The fans that constantly put down coach Stoops just do not understand football and how long it takes to build.
