not sure the money is there to buy out croom. he was given a contract extension earlier this year... also, they have a new jumbotron, proclaimed one of the biggest in the nation, that the alumni have to pay for.... pretty far off base rumor in my opinion. croom will have another year at m$u.

Jackie Sherrill never won a NC at Pitt. He was head coach at Washington State in '76 when Pitt won it. Johnny Majors went to UT after the '76 season, and Sherrill took over in '77.

He is a recruiting machine (or at least he was in the late 90s.) Of course getting Johnny 5 Star and watching him fall apart on the field a la Crompton doesn't help.

Probably academic though, in the Commercial Appeal Ron Higgins stated matter of factly that Croom would be back.

He does less with more.

MSU needs a coach that can do more with less. A coach that doesn't need 20 5 star players to win. A coach that can build an offense around 3-4 good offensive players and create mismatches. Fulmer believes in lining up and beating the other opponent at the line of scrimmage, and you need a lot more talent to do that to be successful.
