Marshall’s attendance today is sad to look at.

Every time I hear about the attendance issues there, I always think back to when Doc Holiday was hired and he made the comment ‘can’t wait til there’s 55k seats out there & that place is packed’. I always thought Is he wanting to expand the stadium to try and be a neutral site location for a WVU vs Kentucky game.

I said that primarily to say boy Holiday was a FOS car salesmen.

He was pandering to the crowd. That comment always stuck out to me too, along with his comment that Marshall was not a stepping stone for him. Marshall fans have always thought if they had a 50,000 seat stadium that people would THEN start selling out Marshall games, instead of actually having a bigger demand than available seats, first and then expanding.

You're right. Not many people in the seats. Probably more people in the luxury boxes than sitting outside. But what can you expect after losing 2 games to the lower rung of the conference. Plus miserable weather.

Only time I ever watched Marshall play at home was 97? I believe when they played for a MAC Championship.

Looked like a HS Stadium.

Sad how they think they are anywhere close to WVU.
Majority of the country has never watched one of their games and If they did cannot remember.

If they would have stayed FCS, they would have probably continued to be one of the premier FCS programs in the country, but they threw it away to chase a dream that one day they would take over the state.

Most people in the state wanted to see them do well in FCS, but then they started their garbage saying we were afraid to play them and nonsense like that. Now most people don’t even bother to follow them.

I have never watched a complete game of theirs that didn’t involve WVU. I live an hour from their stadium and have never been to one of their games.

At one point after they joined the MAC, they claimed they would play in a BCS bowl before WVU ever would, which ended up being a big joke as we went 3-0 in BCS bowls and they never appeared in one.

I rarely watch Marshall football these days, but this was a rare occasion when their game was shown on a real network, so I tuned in for just a little while. I'm going out on a limb and say that the total people in the Joan today was under 1500. 2000 would be a stretch. And that includes their fans, their band, and both teams. They should have stayed in what used to be called 1AA..................the whole state followed them with interest back in those days. Now no one cares, including the Marshall "faithful".

I'm not too hard them. I remember catching a ride after basketball practice with a friend and his Dad the night the football team crashed and all the radio coverage on the way home. We were in a state of shock because we all went to Marshall sports camps and knew a lot of the guys on the plane. It was a half hour drive down there.

I thought it was a mistake for them to jump to CUSA this time around. The MAC is compact and the traveling is minimal. They would save a ton of money and they'd proved they were the Big Dog in the MAC before the move.
