I would like to see the Mountaineers put a major whipping on Marshall this time around. This game has been played close for too many years now. I want Huggins to show the fans once and for all that the Mountaineers are West Virginia basketball!
You've already played 4 teams with a RPI worse than Marshall's.
You've already played 4 teams with a RPI worse than Marshall's.
Game is a complete joke this year.
Marshall will hurt our SOS and RPI....so in a way....they win...because this game will do more harm than good.
Even when Marshall is at a historical low ebb the game is a far more attractive matchup than the majority of the OOC games we play.
WVU has no reason be insecure about playing the lesser school in the state just because inevitably we will occasionally lose. We play lesser schools from all over the country every year and no one makes silly protestations that we shouldn't play them because they have low RPIs. Making that claim about only one team and making it incessantly year after year is something only the most insecure and weak-minded of our fans do.
It's blatantly transparent when a few WVU fans whine about playing Marshall. Marshall is the school that should be insecure.
Right, as I thought...... you know nothing about them.
First, the "two directional KY schools":
NKU was scheduled for 4 reasons, and done so 2 years ago:
- Multiple GAs at WVU (including one Darris Nichols) were hired by NKU for their first coaching gigs
- Huggs was good friends with now-former HC of NKU
- Huggs' nephew was on NKU prior to the coaching change
- most importantly, the game last season at NKU was a gift to Devin Williams' family, who cannot afford to travel to see him play.
EKU:
- Scheduled in Fall of 2014, when Jeff Neubauer was still HC. Jeff, a former WVU assistant, was going to have a "homecoming" of sorts with the game this season. He, instead, took the opportunity at Fordham following the 14-15 season
- EKU, prior to this year and the coaching change, averaged 21+ wins a season over the last 5 seasons and were/are a RPI top 150 opponent
- Stetson and Bethune Cookman were mandated by the Las Vegas Tournament, not scheduled by WVU. And as far as that ******** of "these are the teams coaches want to play"........ well, all you had to do was listen to the Coach's Show last night to know that's not accurate
- Kennesaw St was added due to Huggs' friendship with their HC, Al Skinner. This is also why Alabama, LSU, ASU, Louisville, and Indiana played them this season. Coaches help coaches build programs with OOC matchups.
- JMU, Richmond, SDSU - NCAA Tournament teams. IMO, so is UL Monroe. All range from top 150 RPI to top 50. And the comment about "real fans"? Real WVU fans show up no matter who the opponent is.
But what is it that Marshall is missing out on among all these teams?
- non-competitive RPI
- non-home contest
- HC is not a preferred member of the HC community by Huggs
- School has shown an unwillingness to consider WVU personnel for positions - See Ron Everhart in 2014.
D'Antoni's dumbass mouth is just the icing on the cake.
But you aren't making an argument against his argument. You made an argument on why we played NKU and EKY, and those reasons are valid. But the reason to play Marshall is just as valid, if not more. They are the only other D-I school in the state. That's pretty important if you ask me.
If you are not from WV, I can see why you are against this game. But fact is, it is good for our state. It's a fun game for our fans who live in the southern part of the state. Our state needs Marshall to be successful and if playing them once a year in basketball helps their program more than ours, it's a small price to pay for the overall good of WV.
Not everyone can get into WVU. We need another D1 school for those students who can't make it at Morgantown. Stop being so rough on them.
Low IQ Drifter showing his true colors (Kelly green). Keaton just took him to class on this subject and all he can do is grumble and kick dirt.
Bob Huggins doesn't want this game, but apparently Low IQ Drifter knows better? Some folks just can't get out of their own way.
Keaton is right on this one.
The Hanker's won't stop until they burn WVU to the ground.
Oh he has followed me over to BGN now too just to catch a whiff of my jock when I walk by
Oh he has followed me over to BGN now too just to catch a whiff of my jock when I walk by
It's all black and white for too many if you.
Some people have ties to both universities. Taje me for instance. My masters is from WVU. I have 2 family members with Marshall degrees.
Real life is too complicated for you guys. Better stick to the forums.![]()
Come see me when the season is over and we'll compare Marshall's RPI with all other WVU opponents KYou've already played 4 teams with a RPI worse than Marshall's.
Paper is preaching to a guy (me) with a WVU and Pitt degree each about not understanding ties to multiple schools
Has 7 DUIs
5 and you will have your setbacks too, junior. i am an alcoholic, 8 years sober.
and i am damn near positive i can whip your ***. good news is i like you - sometimes
I remember when you were damn near positive Keaton enjoyed the anonymity more than you did, and how right wrere you then?
We should either let our backups play the whole game or let our women's team play their men. It is always Marshall's Super Bowl, while we never take it seriously. This would solve that, while still giving us a win almost every year...I would like to see the Mountaineers put a major whipping on Marshall this time around. This game has been played close for too many years now. I want Huggins to show the fans once and for all that the Mountaineers are West Virginia basketball!
Why does our state NEED Marshall to be good at basketball?
How is playing them once going to help that?
