I know why there are no beds... a hospital here in Louisville has three floors closed because of staffing issues. A number of staff walked off the job once the vaccine mandate was announced. Several more are waiting to be terminated in Sept, and are utilizing PTO or just flat out not reporting for work.
Typical vaccination rate among hospital staff is about 50-75% across the country, most of that being the administrative side.
Hospitals are drafting emergency contingency plans when their mandate dates hit, and staff still have not complied. Some hospitals are suggesting using the national guard, expecting significant portions of their staff to walk off the job.
Next time you're there, ask them how many beds they have available that aren't staffed. I bet you won't get a straight answer.
