no. unlike Joker the minute Mason is fired as HC the line will be 10 deep from top 20 programs begging him to be their defensive coordinator.

Truth and an excellent point. He's just one of a long line of coordinators who just aren't suited for the Big Chair.

Just has always seemed to be in over his head as the main guy....much like our former coach.

Joker was def in over his head. Same can be said for tons of newish coaches though. Honestly, the same can be said for our current coach unless he proves otherwise very soon. His staff has recruited well, but as of now, that's it.

I will say as you expect a hot shot D Coordinator to do... at least Mason has Vandy's Defense clearly better and better quickly. Not sure we can say that about our UK defense under Stoops thus far.

What specifically makes him similar to Joker?

Young career-coordinator, first time head coach in the SECe, taking over a historically mediocre program that was coming off a successful run that still had decent talent on the roster, but hasn't been able to capitalize and build on it.

Plus, he looks like him a small bit.

Not sure why Vandy is getting all this love on SEC network right now. They have a pretty good D but nothing on offense.

Joker's teams were bad in all 3 phases of the game (O, D, ST). At least Mason's teams play great D and go hard. Joker's teams were soft and undisciplined.

Yes, the man's team beat us last year, but nobody can honestly tell me he's anything but Joker Phillips 2.0

I think that Mason has a chance to be a pretty good coach and if he makes it to a bowl this year then he will have turned the corner. UK is one of the few teams that Vandy expects to beat and after this year it could be 5 of the last 6 which would only make CMS's seat hotter. Expect Vandy's offense to surprise and Vandy to have a solid win over South Carolina. Vandy's spread widened by a point today.

As for Joker, his three year record is better than CMS's three year record. CMS has lost 6 of his last 7 games each of his three years. These are facts.

Joker took over a program with plenty of talent coming off one of its better runs in recent history, and Stoops took over the dumpster fire that JP turned it into. These are also facts.

Considering Kash and Laster don't play the same position. I wouldn't say he beat him out.

Vandy doesn't have a lot of fans, simple as that. One of the smaller fan bases in the power 5, if not the smallest. They're gonna need USC fans to show up for it to be filled.

You may want to check the thread titled "depth chart" friend. Kash is behind love. Laster is behind ware. It's clear as day

I'm back. Still correcting your mistakes.

Thanks, all you guys still running with the blinders on. Maybe amnesia set in from when Laster was moved to Mike. But now it's all coming back, "we have moved in inside because his versatility and can play both" then we get a kid from 1A that beat him out. I laugh at you

Plenty of talent? There was some talented individual talent but it was far from a talented team. You do realize we can look up the recruiting classes he had when entered the program. That's why he had to let half of the staff go, they were good coaches but refused to recruit. I'm sure you know all of this but your agenda won't let you acknowledge it.

-i have no agenda...Joker was an awful HC, there is a reason he is working in a grad assistant type job at Ohio. To compare his record inheriting a decent to good program from Brooks to CMS record following the dumpster fire that was the Joker Phillips era is laughable.

-Mason (or Stoops) would immediately land at a P5 school as a coordinator if they were fired.

The 2010 team may or may not have been talented. I do know that it had quite a few players on it that had been on a winning team in 2009, and yet others who had been on winning teams in 2007 and 2008. It was infinitely better than the team that took the field in 2013.

Let's take a look at the Joker regime from this perspective. At the end of 2012, we were 2-10. We had lost by 40 points to Vandy. We had a very poor incoming recruiting class for the next year. The bottom line is, the reincarnation of Vince Lombardi in his prime was looking at 3 wins max in 2013 with the level of talent that this team had. Joker probably would have managed the same two wins that Stoops did, if we had kept him. Then, we'd be looking at 2014, with two consecutive 2-10 teams, with no Badet, Timmons, Kemp, etc, etc, and no top 25 recruiting class in 2014 (no Barker, no Boom, etc). At the rate Joker was going, we would have eventually finished 0-12.

Sure, we can absolutely look up the recruiting classes that we had when he entered the program. They weren't incredible classes, but they certainly weren't devoid of talent, either.

We can also look at how the team faired prior to him taking over. Outside of the o line, we brought a lot of key contributors back from the year before when we went 7-6.

One way "plenty" is defined is "a sufficient amount or quantity". He didn't have a stacked roster, but he obviously started off with a "sufficient amount or quantity" of talent to get to another bowl game...and he failed to build off of it. But yeah, I guess those facts are just "my agenda", whatever the hell that means
