I suppose they're trying to one-up on last week's Montgomery shooting.
I went to my 1965 Meridian High reunion several years ago and I don't recall any violence nor was there any threat of violence. How times have changed.

Bay springs doesn’t want to play at Heidelberg next week. Say at a neutral site or no fans. If neither they they will pay the $500 to forfeit the gave. If forfeit you lose by 12 points, 0-12. I don’t know how they came up with that.
Is this some sort of coordinated sequence? Not a conspiracy person, but what's going on?
Twelve is the maximum number of victory margin points you can use per game for tiebreakers in the MHSAA.

The irony is that the 18 year old person of interest in the shooting is a former Bay Springs student.
One was a 5 year old little girl. Happened while being held in her daddy’s arms. The other was a mother of 3 kids.
Wtf is wrong with young people these days? I don’t get it. I’m only 45, but when i was younger, this crap just didn’t happen. Did we just have more sense or did our parents actually parent us and not be our “friend”.
The family unit being torn apart and people being raised in single parent homes is the main cause, IMO. Kids need a strong father figure in their life.
Alabama A&M homecoming football game is this afternoon with a hip-hop concert tonight. Hopefully nothing makes the news.
99% of mass shootings in this country come from urban “street” culture. This is a major problem in essentially anywhere with poverty with this issue because increased gang & street criminal culture. A mass shooting is defined by any shooting with at least 3 injuries and these numbers way too often, & purposely, get conflated with school shootings coming from mentally ill people which are much more rare but get all the media attention. I wish our American culture gave the same energy to these as they happen literally every day and no one seems to give a ****. No one should have to live in constant fear of shoot outs in public between idiot teenage criminals.
All three shootings last night were at essentially all black populated school functions. South Delta is listed as 99% black, 0.2% white. Heidelberg and Leland schools listed with essentially the same demographics.
Parents actually parented, fathers were in the home, and if you screwed up you got your a^s beat.......you knew what boredom was, and there were expectations placed on you........my best guess......all I can say is at this point, holding parents responsible for their kids actions is starting to become more sensible..........I don't know what the answer is, but these young people have no problem resolution skills and no value for another person.
Bay spring had parents that were not going to let their kids travel and play at Heidelberg. I don’t anticipate the forfeit. I anticipate they will come up with another option
MHSAA needs to ban/suspend the affiliated schools. Like it or not, it’s an irreversible, cultural problem that many innocent people are needlessly exposed to when traveling in from other areas. Practically every school west of 55 and south of Desoto County should be in their own divisions. The rest of the State has zero interest and nothing to culturally offer.
Probably time to say goodbye to nighttime high school football.
Let’s not resort to mass punishment just yet. Start with the problem children. No need to punish the civilized.

Then you were 17 when Pearl happened. There was a shooting one year at the Warren Central Vicksburg game when I was in HS in the 90’s. Luckily nobody died. We used to joke that you could rob any store in Vicksburg during that game because all of the cops were at that game. I dated a girl from Cleveland and she said when they played East Side they burned the stadium down. Now three shootings on the same night? That’s 17’ing crazy and tragic.
Truman and LBJ dismantled the Black Middle Class and the Government incentivized the dismantling.
It is negligent parenting propped up by subsidizing single motherhood and using the court system in divorces to incentivize being single if you are a female. Or government assistance if you were not married. If you had to fend for yourself if you let a deadbeat get you pregnant most of this would go away.
The death toll in Leland is now six.

But it was a school-related gathering.
There was an incident somewhere else (I think in the midwest) where pepper spay was used to break up fights at a high school game a couple nights ago.
Drive by shooting being reported in Leland this afternoon as well…maybe Tater needs to call the National Guard in.
