Matt Balis - it's nice to steal one from another BCS school.

from Veazey, up top:

"Recruit, and hire a tremendous strength coach," Meyer said. "Dan knows, a lot of times I'll hear about these coaches or I'll talk to some young coaches and put their staff together and I'll ask the question about the strength staff, about the discipline in your program and those things. He hired our former strength coach who was at Virginia and now he's at Mississippi State, so he just hit a home run. He's got a chance now, and I would say Dan had zero chance if he couldn't hire an ace strength staff that can keep that thing together..."

I think he's wrong either way. MSU has just as much shot of being a winning program as most any other BCS school, I think. I just don't see how you read that as a compliment. I think Meyer is wrong.

except of the praise of the hire.

I think Meyer was talking generally, not about state. In fact, the second time i read it, its pretty clear.

All he saying is the strength coach is the foundation of the team. Without a good one you won't be successful.

if a guy gets hired and puts that, I'm going to hire a strength coach later, that's a guy that has no clue what's going on, and he'll fail.

Read the entire blog. He is simply saying that the strength coach is a vital part of the program and if anybody, not just MSU, doesn't have a good one they have no chance to be successful. He then says Mullen recognized this fact, hired a home run, and thus has a chance. There is nothing back handed about it.

I think he's right too. I still think a lot of our success this year can be attributed to Don Decker our S&C guy. A good S&C coach not only plays a role in your team being in good shape, but if he does a really good job, you'll be able to avoid a lot of injuries.

And I agree with him. I think the compliment is that he said we hit a home run with what is a critical hire for any program.
