Yes there’s a long line of businesses waiting to invest in eastern ky the minute they all kneel for the gestapo anthem. Lol
Not to mention you’re preaching about privilege and discrimination to a demographic that knows all too much about being discriminated and stereotyped. The African American community and the poorer, rural south have much more in common than the MSM would ever lead you to believe.

Example: Freshman year at UK I had a sociology professor start the class by asking anyone from eastern KY to raise their hand; and then proceeded to say that you’ll fail this class because everyone from eastern KY was product of generations of inbreeding and ignorant. And the rest of the class laughed. Now imagine if that was in the context of race, sex, orientation.

Again....common ground would go further than dividing and polarization. Both sides feed on it and then feel attacked and become defensive. Not a lick Of good comes from it except ratings and views.

I've always had similar thoughts to your post. Tough place to live and for some, even tougher to get out. When I was growing up there it was hard to get around in the Winter and basic things that are taken for granted in urban areas were hard to come by.

dumb argument

A good lawyer is one who can take a bad argument, but still persuade you with it.

You might call that laying the law down; I'll call it something els.e

For starters, it would be very difficult to find an area in Eastern Kentucky that would have the means to sustain any corporation. The cost of doing business there would be a detriment and most everything needed would have to be brought in from other locations. No airports with the exception of small, private landing strips and trying to get anything via land freight in the Winter is difficult. Here again, Jones has no clue what he's talking about.

this idea people can bully or shame Kentuckians into not voicing their displeasure with kneeling is absurd. A kid misses a free throw and we talk about it for 2 weeks.

they kneeled, people reacted (as expected). Now we ALL live with the fallout

and seriously, that was the best threat he could come up with?

Yep. And the media openly portrays (movies etc) the demographic as incest and ignorant. To the point a southern accent is associated with a low education or IQ. Imagine thinking someone was speaking “incorrectly” or they were not intelligent because they had a British accent or a northeastern accent. But that’s what media conditioning will do.

I’ve literally had people ask if we had running water and be genuinely surprised I was wearing shoes upon learning where I was from. I’ve also had grown adults turn their nose up and stop conversing when I said I was from eastern KY.

if you haven’t seen Hillbilly Elegy on Netflix, there is a scene where he’s having dinner and trying to get an internship at a law firm and that scenario kind of plays out. If you’ve never experienced it, you’d be surprised at how common and dead on that reaction was.

Shut your mouth about the UK Mens Basketball team kneeling. Corporations will NOT bring their businesses to your area if you don’t.
Just like the rest of those guys voted into office, trying to blackmail someone, in order to keep their mouths shut... Keep your jobs Jones, if you have any to give, which you don't... They survived before you in Eastern KY and will survive after you...

Kentucky's coaches and players were wrong in kneeling... This is America and this is our flag that they're disrespecting... My step dad was disabled in world war II and my uncles in world war II, and other members of my family fought in different wars...

I looked over it when both teams and coaches walked through the street, marching for BLM.... If they begin this stuff, It's going to be a long time for, not only eastern ky, that he's pointing out, but Kentuckians everywhere, to love their team... If Jones thinks that the state of Kentucky, except eastern ky is good with this, then he's a dummy...

I missed the draft by sheer months... Mandatory draft was dropped when I was a senior in high school...

I was in the work force for 40 years and heard a lot of those things as well. Back in the '90's I had a woman at Carswell Air Force Base make a statement that "everyone knows that people from Kentucky don't wear shoes". To me, these people are the ignorant ones. People from Ohio and Indiana were especially bad for those types of comments and stereotypes. I was subjected to comments about not wearing shoes, one leg shorter than the other from running the hills, if my aunt was also my mother-in-law, etc.

I grew up in WV and went to school in KY and NC. I live in NC now and the comments that local here make about KY/WV make me laugh because it's a perfect case of the pot calling the kettle black. Some of these yokels act like they grew up in Downton Abbey the way they try to look down on NC and WV. ;)

Like some of it is joking and I understand that (still it’s one of the last demographics you can openly make derogatory jokes about) but there are people out there in large numbers who aren’t joking and they legitimately believe those things.

Right, this lady wasn't joking and I was shocked that someone would be so ignorant to make such a statement. I just blew it off and didn't run to HR and complain like those who would these days.

sounds like the original intent was lost in translation from the OP

and the wording was intended to stir people up on here - mission accomplished.

I'd like to hear what Jones said and the context of it now.

We must be the same age. I still have my draft card but like you said, the draft was abolished when I was a senior as well.

The funniest thing is when folks from Louisville talk down to the rest of us, thinking they are above the rest of us. I got a news flash for them, folks in NY do not separate people from Louisville from the rest of KY, they think all of us are inbred morons.

Right, all of us are lumped in together. Everyone from Ashland to people living in the Jackson Purchase region.

Exactly!! My family goes back generations in eastern kentucky. Know why my mom and dad moved? No work. Still no work. Matt Jones lol.
And what's really laughable about his comment is that politicians have already ruined that part of the state. How can anymore damage be done?

If we can’t openly support our country’s flag, anthem, military, police & first responders what can we support ? Guess I’ll go with France 🇫🇷 or Greece looks amazing
People were kicked off a flight the other day for simply chanting USA & singing the anthem.
BLM hat is acceptable
Blue thin line support for police hat will get you trouble. Lol sad truth 🤷‍♂️
