He's not wrong. The approach to all of this is asinine but as I've said previously - how we grew up with college sports is still somewhat there. The players change but they are still wearing the colors of the school and I will care as long as that still occurs.

Promoter of what?
The sport he gets paid by. If he just rails against it all the time why would I want to listen to a broadcast of the sport. If it’s so bad as he makes it out to be then I should just turn it off ….no listeners is no job, no YouTube hits to his breakdown of plays and games so no income there It also doesn’t contribute to fans of the team he is broadcasting being excited about the team, buying tickets, contributing to NIL etc… so he isn’t helping …….so yea he wants to pay bill then get to promoting

He's 100% right.

When I was in college in the late 90s, there was a staff member in the athletic department that got fired for filling out a $5 March Madness bracket. Now that sports gambling is not longer a pariah, and readily available to everyone, it is influencing college sports. There was a time when professional sports teams were banned from playing in Las Vegas, now Vegas has teams in three of the four major sports leagues.

It's not college sports anymore. The starting quarterback in the national championship tomorrow night jokingly stated that he hasn't had a class in two years. It's not even minor leagues. It's all the worst qualities of professional sports multiplied exponentially and adding in unlimited transfers.

One of the truths of this new era of college sports is that the owner of the Southern car dealership or regional tire distributor that dominated the last era and the beginning of NIL means nothing anymore. The two teams playing for the national championship tomorrow night have billionaire boosters that are doing this with pocket change. They don't need large collectives.

High school recruiting is all but dead. It's all about the portal now.

He’s talking about the state of the game dipshit. We all agree with him too, shlt sucks, and we know it’s not getting better.
The only dipshit is you and we don’t all agree you think Indiana fans think things are worse?
You think Rebel fans think it’s worse? You think tv rating make it look worse? It sux because we are behind the 8 ball but new teams winning , closer more competitive games is worse ?? Unsustainable yes worse no. And I’ll say it again it’s game he gets paid by he should be working to grow it not dog it.

I took his tweet to be more of self reflection of trying to enjoy the moment of attending games rather than the big picture. (show us the post game pic of the dad cussing down the hill
And the little kid crying). Which is good advice given State (and seemingly Ark) has no chance in football. But here is some of that virtue I enjoyed all season at Scott field....

Add a P for professional and that’s what we have. PNCAA. I don’t know how to fix it and it may not be at this point. Some are ok with it and some not. I’m not but I’m in the age bracket that will be dying off before long so perhaps in 10 years or less the majority will fully support the system and contribute to the max for player acquisitions.

Annnnndddd……lawyers everywhere collectively say “hold my beer” while they usher in Nascar jerseys with corporate sponsorships all over the place. So, you’ll still get the colors of the school, plus a whole rainbow cornucopia of other shiťtiness as well.

Matt seems like he’s done with CFB and has been for some time. He seemed much more invested when he had that show with Cross. Nowadays he’s more interested in photography. There is absolutely nothing wrong with any of that but it does occasionally come off weird since he calls the game on the school’s broadcast.

My take, Indiana is in the national championship and they didn't do it by spending more money than everyone. The blue bloods took a hit in this and teams are more competitive now. Is the money stupid? Yes! But the product is actually better.
Or do you guys prefer to see the same couple teams winning it all every year and dynasties running college football?

I'm not sure why you'd be upset with his takes on the state of today's college football....he's not wrong about a lot of things. I'm not a regular listener, but there aren't too many others out there who are a better promoter of state athletics.
I don’t think anyone is upset with his takes being that he’s right. It comes off as weird at times as a figurehead for MSU football since he calls the games and many of those calls come out in university marketing. It’s a reasonable take

How does posting a picture of an Arkansas family enjoying themselves walking to the game on Twitter promote state athletics?
How does the money gets from his YouTube film studies promote state athletics?

He’s just not a radio guy , the quicker learfield can figure that out. …The sooner we can get somebody competent to go along with Neil.

You don’t think he’s a good color commentator for football?
Absolutely not. Possibly one of the worst I’ve ever heard in my entire life. He’s like a little child yelling in the background thinking he’s Nostradamus.

There's a website for state fans who want to be lied to: genespage.com.

I'd prefer to hear what I need to hear over what I want to hear.
No one is asking him to lie or even be a sunshine pumper …but I don’t think having a person who is integral part of the program and one of the faces of the program being negative about college football is helpful I have to wonder if we had money and were winning would he still feel the same? Would the pack? Maybe I’m just old school and don’t bite the hand that feeds me

aGAIN, you say negative, I say truthful. By complaining about Wyatt's "negativity," you are biting the hand that feeds you.

If you like echo chambers there are places for that. CFP is problematic right now, and the more voices out there amplifying it, the better the chances someone eventually steps in and fixes at least some of it.

Good Lord.

Someone saying Matt Wyatt isn't good on the radio because they don't like his truthful take on the state of the sport we love is jumping the shark. Let's bring back John Correro and his commentary.

Looks like their was a flag on the play Let's go down to John on the field.

Yeah Jack, the referee threw a flag

No. He and every other maroon would be dancing up Poydras to the Super dome.

I imagine it is difficult for him to watch his in-laws having a great time too. And he had to sit through 3 hours of hopelessness.

State fans need to go ahead and forget the "I don't know who is on the team, so I can't connect to it" BS! It's time to realize whose name is on the back of the jersey doesn't matter. It's only about Mississippi State winning games now, because it's a business. It's never going back to what it was.

College athletics has always been corrupt and rotten, at least in my lifetime. It's just out in the open now. The old system was not in all ways better. Programs that had a free hand in paying players in the old system had a leg up on the new system. They just brought the system they had out in the open. Lately, it seems to be evening out. Does anyone think Indiana would be playing for a NC in the old system? For me, it's good to see someone new.

Nowadays if you have enough money ANYONE can buy themselves a team. The chosen few programs can no longer hoard players. State may not win anything in the new system, but we didn't do much in the old one either. And, like stated above, the old system is not coming back.

With the old system you had the ncaa. The ncaa hammered OM and others when they bought players.

He is a university employee that a lot of people of the older generation listen to and take his opinion to heart. He rails against NIL constantly, and even though I agree with his overall point it’s not good for a university employee who has a big platform to be airing his disgust about it every single day like he does. We need the most help we can get financially to compete. Having a talking head for the university with that type of audience will diminish donations from donors that follow him because they trust his opinion. Someone needs to tell him to stop talking about it every day or go work for someone that will be ok with you discouraging potential NIL donors from giving. He doesn’t have to promote it, but his ranting is beyond old.

I think he's an employee of Learfield not the university. Could be wrong.
