Goat Redux said:my dad is one of them. In his words, "Look around. Polk built ALL of this." And while that's true, and Polk deserves the credit for that, those same people aren't objective enough to see when he's run his course. I suspect it's like that everywhere. Ask FSU fans about Bowden.
So don't be so hard on our "dumbass" fan base because they are too loyal. It's the guys wanting to fire Cohen right now, and to a lesser degree Stansbury, that I believe are real dumbshits here.
1. They begged him to come back in 1992 when he WANTED to leave. If a coach wants to leave, you let him go. Instead, we went through a short period of being average, which was a step below what we were on our worst years, minus 1982. We certainly could have had just about anyone- like a guy named Augie Garrido in 1992, and ol Lar probably wouldn't have had to break the bank.
2. What did I hear in the stands during the entire Pat McMahon era? Everytime something would go wrong- "Well that wouldn't have happened if Ron was still here." And this guy was Polk's chosen successor. I really believe that Pat left in part because he was tired of hearing "What Ron would do". Program is still in pretty good shape at this point. Coming off of a SR.
3. So LT does the status quo thing and brings back Ron Polk. In the meantime everyone is building better facilities and recruiting our pants off- including Ole Miss. It was obvious that there was a diffence in talent except to the sheep who apparently thought that "Ron will get his players in here" all the while ignoring the fact that Ron's classes sucked royal ***. Except for maybe the one with Ed Easley, Matt Lea, and Mitch Moreland in it . And then when he has left a steaming heap of dung at the stadium that bears his name, they want to hire the guy who has no experience, helped bring in said suck *** classes, and then go apeshit when Cohen says that the guys that he brought in can't pitch when the stats showed that they can't.
So, yeah, I'd say that if they all followed Ron Polk off of a cliff, it probably wouldn't be the worst thing in the world for MSU baseball. And at the very least, maybe some of those ridiculous lifetime contracts would come open and some people could actually watch the game in the grandstands.
I'm not saying that the fans should get all of the blame, but they certainly encouraged some very negative things towards the program that have almost competely ruined it.
