If Cutter or Nolad are even remotely competent, or Duckworth is what he's projected, then we'll be fine.
Deal was needed to get him here. Why else would he come here for Shane's last season? Donati has already made the decision if Beamer is his coach or not. So that's one way.
It would be difficult. Shane would have to have a bad seaon to be let go. But Briles would have to do well enough to earn the interim and then next coach title.
How does Briles do that well while the overall team still fails?
I think Donati wanted to fire Beams after the season but was given the directive that he gets another year. Have you seen that schedule? You think Shane's going to have a good season? Shane's gone.
Interesting take on the hire but do you have any proof? And given you are correct in your prognostication of Beamer’s future, can you answer Lurker‘s question of how Briles would come out smelling like roses if they failed?

I think his best chance would be for the season to start bad, get the interim JC title part of the way through the season, and then show enough to be given a chance at HC.

I find it hard to believe if the Gamecocks go 4-8 again next year that Briles could be sold to fans as the answer going forward. They would have had a whole season to dissect his every move and explain why Beamer hired the wrong OC again (more /s) and we need to move on from the entire staff.
A staff cleansing at the end of the year includes him, yes. The only scenario I see him surviving that is the one I posted above.
FWIW, there's a reddit thread out there about us hiring Briles. I can tell you we came out of thread looking like fools and a laughing stock. Some very angry gamecock fans and other teams piling on with our "terrible" decision.
