so dead set on breaking that thing up and running off to another conference? Big 12 football and basketball has been fun to watch and has easily been my second favorite conference. They have the big dog schools, traditional rivalries, represent well in post-season, having TV contracts and the such. I don't get it. I hate to see it split up.

no TV network, no equal revenue sharing. i don't have the numbers in front of me, but compare the money that big 12 schools get compared to big 10 and SEC and it's not even close. another component to it is the perceived, or probably real, texas greed. that contributed heavily to arkansas leaving the SWC, which was the beginning of the end for that conference.

And i'm aware the Big 12 payouts are far less than the SEC and Big 10. I just really don't see why. You'd think that Midwest market including Texas-Oklahoma-Nebraska would be decent enough to bring in a lot of money. Those states especially are football-crazy as it gets, similar to the SEC.

Being a former Dallas resident, I can says the population there just isn't so passionate about college sports. Now maybe that's just Dallas. They do have lots of pro sports going that swamps out college sports.

on running away, but when multiple conferences are courting you, it only makes sense to listen.

And the other poster is correct, no one grew up with the Big 12, there are no longstanding ties to it.

it's not a random collection of teams that never had anything to do with each other either. there were some great Big 8 and SWC rivalries that are still in tact in that conference, along with TX and OU who were not in the same conference but had a traditional rivalry. it's really a shame they are getting raided because it's one of the best conferences in the country every year in terms of success. outside of money squabbles, they're a victim of geography. being in the middle of the country several of those schools were always gonna be candidates to be cherry picked by other conferences.

The inequity of revenue sharing has made the strong stronger, and the weak weaker. If I was Mizzou & Nebraska, I'd want to get the hell out for the Big 10+1.<div>
</div><div>Te reason "The Death of the Big XII" seems eminent, is that the conference could shrink to the point of losing its Football conference championship game. That could be financiallycatastrophic to the conference. Now the Big XII could inviteHouston& TCU, just to keep itseligibilityfor conference championship game. But that would not be as marketable as the present conference alignment, because UH & TCU are in the existing footprint.</div><div><div>
</div><div>Without Texas in the mix, all bets are off. The other remaining schools would be left holding the bag (which would more than likely be filled with excrement). </div></div>
