Maybe the Spring Games from the Croom years jaded me but...

our defense has looked less than stellar today. A lot of running room for RBs and a lot of open receivers.

The only way to evaluate spring games is to evaluate if individual players or if certain positions have gotten better. Judging it in anyway by how the offense or defense plays, is a waste of time. You can only judge individual talent, not units.

We are totally at the mercy of the assistants on that side of the ball.

As Lombardi would say, "What the hell's going on out there?" I'm blind here. Who were the MVP's?

(Please hurry before Coch34 pontificates).

Jameon and Chapelle excelled at the WR position. Robinson and Milton both ran hard. Christian Holmes made a fantastic catch. Our kickers sucked.

I've only seen the 1st qtr so far, but that dead pull by Devon Bell early in the game made it look like he hasn't practiced a damn thing since last fall. Isn't he in his 3rd year with the team now? If he doesn't get that corrected real soon, it's time to cut bait and move on. ****... Those special teams scholarships are too valuable to have someone that can't hit a 30 yarder in a spring game

Nope. Next year will just be his second.

With that being the case, then there should still be hope for him. I'm just starting to get extremely impatient with our continuous kicking woes

Redmond and #28 (I think) have SEC size and speed. That is about all I took from today. We have two new DBs with size and speed. Also nobody stood out at LB. we need a stud LB badly.

Spring games are just for the fans.

No coach in his right mind is going to run defensive plays that might injure anyone. Most of the times it is geared toward the offense and really splits all of the team's talent. For the players it is probably more of going out to have a good time, but more to celebrate the end of spring practice. You may see some individual sparks, but for the most part it is going to be very, very vanilla and no where near full speed.

I wasn't there but I bet the linebackers were non existent... probably the DEs as well.

Of course this board of sports experts love to ***** and over analyze everything. Ya'll have fun.

Before the Spring Game, judging by what I read from the various outlets and knowledge of last season, I believed that there's no drop-off between first and second teams on both sides of the ball. The first team has the experience but the second team has considerably raw but equal talent. I think that the game yesterday supports that theory. The game appeared to be very evenly contested - even without two experienced quarterbacks. (LSU produced a 37-0 laugher in their Spring Game.) Maintaining this competition level on the 2-deeps is important to closing the gap with the Bamas, Auburns, and A&Ms of the world. The more players ready to step in and contribute - whether for injury or incompetence - will keep us competitive for longer in the game and the season.

So, I wonder now if the second team could beat the first team with everyone healthy. But we'll have to wait until August for that.

Maybe the Shula years has Bama Nation equally jaded...

...because the Bama spring game featured 9 turnovers (6 INT's & 3 fumbles). If the MSU spring game featured 9 turnovers, this board will be in such a meltdown, dawgstudent would have to shut it down for 24 hours. I'm sure Bama Nation will be fuming over those 9 turnovers in the spring game when the real season arrives & they are, yet again, on pace to win a NC.
