Btw....whoever it was that commented about KT going to A&M to beat out Mond might wanna watch the amazing touch he has had in this game
Didn't see the game, but did notice Mond's QBR for the game was lower than all 3 of KT's starts at MSU.
And, again...to clarify, I mentioned aTm as a place KT might have a chance to earn the starting position because:
1. Mond has had one bad year & one good year. I clearly said it could boil down to whether last year was a fluke for Mond or part of his growth and/or development under the new coaching staff.
2. KT & Mond are part of the same recruiting class. KT was the higher-rated of the two.
3. After sitting out a year, KT would still have 2 years left, while Mond, if he stays for his senior season, has just one more. So, even if Mond stays the starter next year, KT would still have 2 years of eligibility to start, unless one year was burned by aTm.
4. KT is criticized for his lack of passing ability, yet as a high-school senior he threw for over 3,800 yards, 46 TD's, 7 INT's with a 60% completion %. While he was at it, he rushed for another 1,434 yards and 26 TD's.
5. For his HS career he threw for 7,642 yds and 94 TD's, as well as rushed for 4,634 yds and 58 TD's
Granted, that was high school competition, but a kid does not reach numbers like that in high school if he can't throw the ball worth a damn. So we seem to be judging this kid on how he did in the 3 games he played...in particular the one game under Moorhead...out first game ever in Joe's system. I never said KT was better than TS. I just stuck up for the kid vs those who either attacked his supposed lack of ability, or claimed he would have no shot at a P5, or places like aTm or LSU.
I've tried to point out the 3 games we have on KT were all tough situations the kid was thrown into, with only 2 that had him getting any starter reps prior to the game, vs Louisville in a game in which our coaching staff had already departed for Florida, and the aforementioned first game in Joe's system, where despite averaging 10.9 yds per carry, Joe had him throw the ball 31 times, and run just 10. You don't think Joe had made his mind up prior to the game that we were gonna force passes no matter what?
Care to look at how so many other QB's who turned out to be really good, had poor performances at first?
My main point was, and continues to be that some here have been too quick to discount KT's potential, especially given we really have no clue how the young man might do if given more of a chance to be coached up another year. I'm fine with TS being named the starter because I trust our staff to have evaluated both QB's in practices and camps. I'm very hopeful TS will prove not to be a, "practice warrior", but I also hate that KT is looking to transfer. I'd feel a lot better about the next couple of years if KT stayed to see how much better he could get with another year in Joe's system.
I also don't buy into what many here claim, that Joe showed he had no faith in KT because he didn't put KT in last year for any minutes or when Fit was struggling. I think it more likely Joe decided Fitz needed every snap he could get because he had missed all those pre-season snaps due to his injury, so was never really going to get near enough as it was. All the way up to the last game, Fitz never really looked comfortable against any good defense, so I lean toward believing Joe was just hoping Fitz would eventually get comfortable enough as he got more and more snaps.
This is just my opinion. I don't disrespect other's opinions unless they get nasty, misquote or use my comments out of context. I also don't consider my opinion to be more valuable than others, though I do try to back mine up with facts and relevant stats, so appreciate differing opinions when they, too are backed by the same, and reason, rather than pure emotion or a desire to just be an *******. Not saying you're being one, but there are plenty here who have been.
