Too bad there is not a place central in the city with turf where they could play a double header with a big tent and have a good cook out. Have Lenti and Badke hug each other and say I love you man.

Come on, I'm a CCL guy but no one except those schools give a crap about those games and why should they?

They shouldn't but they still felt the need to post in a thread about it to take a shot. Why open the thread and post if it means nothing to you? Oh but it does, it allows ones to take shots at the 16-18 year olds that are finishing their season out, playing for a great, traditional championship.

Excellent rejoinder!

Extra practices, extra live games, it's like the advantage a college team earns for making a bowl game.

I have no problem with it - but we do see a lot of complaining on the board about multipliers and all the disadvantages of being a private and it would be nice to point out and have some acknowledgement of some of the advantages of being a private eligible for the prep bowl.

I think the Prep Bowl is fine for those involved. I think all conferences should be able to establish a conference vs conference championship at the end of the season. Most schools had some form of Thanksgiving tradition prior to joining the IHSA. The fact that the Chicago schools are the only ones to keep their tradition is an issue.

I personally would not be interested in playing after losing in the IHSA playoffs but others would.

Good. Start a thread. Get support. Petition the IHSA. You quoted my post which was just a response to a couple of posters that could not care less about the Prep Bowl but felt the need to make fun of the teams participating in it. They didn't mention the post-season 'fairness' issue as you bring up. I don't disagree with anything you said but it has nothing to do with my earlier response.

JCA and Provi wouldnt mind a shot at a Southland, SW or Sub. Prairie
Wish this game was at Ekersall as a sort of tribute to the history of this rivalry. Then again, I haven't driven by 83rd and Yates in a while; maybe Ekersall doesnt exist??
Eckersall is there, but is SR the home team? If so, I think the CPS' Stagg Stadium on 74th and Morgan is more indicative of SR's old stadium and nearby environs.

haha! Stagg Stadium is a classic. Obviously Im incredibly biased. But I don't think anything compares to the Snake Pit because it literally was interconnected with main school buildings. It was such an intimate environment and obviously a huge advantage for SR, except for November of 1988

I do have a thought, there is a lot of discussion regarding first round blowouts, what if the Prep Bowl was available to CPS schools only and those schools would not be eligible for IHSA playoff participation.
The majority of the privates who are eligible for Prep Bowl participation also tend to do well within the IHSA playoffs, so they already have that option available to them.
Obviously each year there are Prep Bowl public schools who are competitive within the IHSA playoffs, perhaps allow those schools to petition in for IHSA eligibility?
You could expand the Prep Bowl to a couple classes to allow for more even matchups between the various levels of CPS schools.
Changing the Prep Bowl to have more of a Chicago focus might spike more interest in football with a more achievable goal in front of the kids.
I don't mean this as being taking something away from the private schools and destroying their Prep Bowl traditions, but as a way to possibly alleviate some of the imbalances the early round IHSA games while expanding the options for the CPS kids.

You should see the comments on the Nielski website.Man under the Edgy rules most would be tossed off that site.My cousin sadly was tossed off here and should have been and btw bones that website you referenced mentioned by my cousin is run by retired police officers who have had football playing kids at mt carmel, rice, rita and marist among others.they expose the truth while the media ignores it.As stated numerous times if the prep bowl is ever gotten rid of the cps is going to allow all eligible inner city and windy city conference schools in the state playoffs.so that would eliminate many suburban schools giving many something else to ***** about

If Laurence and Fenwick lose then I believe the winner of Rice/Iggy gets Larry and winner of MC/SR gets Fenwick?

I might open it up also to CCL Red/SCC/low ESCC teams that do not make it into the IHSA at all. Those teams would need to have a minimum of 5 City resident players to be eligible. Yet this year it would still be MC waiting in the wings.

The prep bowl is about tradition, its about remembering the old days of public vs catholic league. The prep bowl is about having the opportunity to play on soldier field where your idols played every Sunday.
The prep bowl used to be the only city championship played before there was the IHSA playoffs. Now its opportunity to give young student athletes the opportunity to play more games in a sport that they love.
The prep bowl is about playing with your teammates as long as you possibly can.
The prep bowl is one of the purist things offered in High School sports in Chicago. Its allows kids to play because they want to play.
Tradition, love of the sport and opportunity is what the prep bowl stands for.

Teams already can practice through Thanksgiving weekend if theyd like. Nobody does though.

I agree with all mentioned above. I also think that everyone should have the same opportunity.

I know - but practices cant replace live game action. Like I said - I don't have a problem with it, I think it's great - but would be nice for folks that are eligible to participate in it - to acknowledge it is a nice benefit that most do not have. We hear a lot of the negatives (multipliers etc) but no one really talks about some of the advantages/benefits

Nobody in their generation cares about the prep bowl and they shouldnt. Most of these kids are well involved in activities that just hanging around for a meaningless game to 'be with their teammates' is asinine. They don't want to play in this game, the coaches do and it's selfish, if it were up to the kids and a captains vote they would decline it, it just doesn't matter anymore. These kids play more than one sport and it takes away from practice for winter and spring sports that actually matter. And I can tell you they are tired of you trying to live or relive glory days through them.

Interesting outlook from possibly the kids point of view.

My son, a Senior, is playing for Ignatius in the Prep Bowl playoffs. He is excited about playing the game this weekend - as he said "I get to play football - its fun - we don't get many games like baseball."

His coaches have made the practices a little less rigorous as the boys are somewhat beat up from the season but his team will be ready.

He realizes that playing in the Prep Bowl playoffs last year gave his Junior and Sophomore teammates an additional 1/3 of a season and it paid off this year. He recognizes that part of being a Senior is to get his younger teammates ready to compete in 2017 as his senior teammates did last year.

Also gives a few players who were hurt earlier in the season a chance to get some playing time now as they have healed.

The Prep Bowl is allowing for some nice matchups - Rice gets to play Iggy who it didn't play in regular season and more importantly allows MC to get its rematch with Rita.

Last year when MC won the Championship game was at Gately, so they couldn't even play at Soldiers Field....I'm torn on the Prep Bowl, I love watching MC play, and I normally go to the Championship when they make it to the Championship game in the Prep Bowl, but there is a feeling that's obviously missing. It's tradition and I respect tradition, so go ahead and play, but if MC played a rematch against SR or BR and wins I won't feel as satisfied if they won it during the State Playoffs.....from watching these games I just don't think they play as hard...plus you'll see players who may have been playing through an injury for the sake of the team in the State playoffs, hang it up for the season...you'll see a lot of kids that rode the benches get their well deserved playing time....they keep it loose. I see both sides, no kid is pumped about playing for the Prep Bowl, they want to play for State, but when you commit to these teams, you know its an option, so like I said above, tradition is tradition.
