Come on, I'm a CCL guy but no one except those schools give a crap about those games and why should they?

They shouldn't but they still felt the need to post in a thread about it to take a shot. Why open the thread and post if it means nothing to you? Oh but it does, it allows ones to take shots at the 16-18 year olds that are finishing their season out, playing for a great, traditional championship.

I think the Prep Bowl is fine for those involved. I think all conferences should be able to establish a conference vs conference championship at the end of the season. Most schools had some form of Thanksgiving tradition prior to joining the IHSA. The fact that the Chicago schools are the only ones to keep their tradition is an issue.
I personally would not be interested in playing after losing in the IHSA playoffs but others would.
MC@SR Saturday 4pm
Eckersall is there, but is SR the home team? If so, I think the CPS' Stagg Stadium on 74th and Morgan is more indicative of SR's old stadium and nearby environs.Wish this game was at Ekersall as a sort of tribute to the history of this rivalry. Then again, I haven't driven by 83rd and Yates in a while; maybe Ekersall doesnt exist??

JCA and Provi wouldnt mind a shot at a Southland, SW or Sub. Prairie

I might open it up also to CCL Red/SCC/low ESCC teams that do not make it into the IHSA at all. Those teams would need to have a minimum of 5 City resident players to be eligible. Yet this year it would still be MC waiting in the wings.I do have a thought, there is a lot of discussion regarding first round blowouts, what if the Prep Bowl was available to CPS schools only and those schools would not be eligible for IHSA playoff participation.
The majority of the privates who are eligible for Prep Bowl participation also tend to do well within the IHSA playoffs, so they already have that option available to them.
Obviously each year there are Prep Bowl public schools who are competitive within the IHSA playoffs, perhaps allow those schools to petition in for IHSA eligibility?
You could expand the Prep Bowl to a couple classes to allow for more even matchups between the various levels of CPS schools.
Changing the Prep Bowl to have more of a Chicago focus might spike more interest in football with a more achievable goal in front of the kids.
I don't mean this as being taking something away from the private schools and destroying their Prep Bowl traditions, but as a way to possibly alleviate some of the imbalances the early round IHSA games while expanding the options for the CPS kids.
Better yet, have them share grill duty!Too bad there is not a place central in the city with turf where they could play a double header with a big tent and have a good cook out. Have Lenti and Badke hug each other and say I love you man.

More like a yardstick for CPS to measure themselves i.e. "if we cant beat Guerin, then damn..."Trophy for everyone?
Teams already can practice through Thanksgiving weekend if theyd like. Nobody does though.Extra practices, extra live games, it's like the advantage a college team earns for making a bowl game.
I have no problem with it - but we do see a lot of complaining on the board about multipliers and all the disadvantages of being a private and it would be nice to point out and have some acknowledgement of some of the advantages of being a private eligible for the prep bowl.
The prep bowl is about tradition, its about remembering the old days of public vs catholic league. The prep bowl is about having the opportunity to play on soldier field where your idols played every Sunday.
The prep bowl used to be the only city championship played before there was the IHSA playoffs. Now its opportunity to give young student athletes the opportunity to play more games in a sport that they love.
The prep bowl is about playing with your teammates as long as you possibly can.
The prep bowl is one of the purist things offered in High School sports in Chicago. Its allows kids to play because they want to play.
Tradition, love of the sport and opportunity is what the prep bowl stands for.

Nobody in their generation cares about the prep bowl and they shouldnt. Most of these kids are well involved in activities that just hanging around for a meaningless game to 'be with their teammates' is asinine. They don't want to play in this game, the coaches do and it's selfish, if it were up to the kids and a captains vote they would decline it, it just doesn't matter anymore. These kids play more than one sport and it takes away from practice for winter and spring sports that actually matter. And I can tell you they are tired of you trying to live or relive glory days through them. The prep bowl is about tradition, its about remembering the old days of public vs catholic league.
