Last year when MC won the Championship game was at Gately, so they couldn't even play at Soldiers Field....I'm torn on the Prep Bowl, I love watching MC play, and I normally go to the Championship when they make it to the Championship game in the Prep Bowl, but there is a feeling that's obviously missing. It's tradition and I respect tradition, so go ahead and play, but if MC played a rematch against SR or BR and wins I won't feel as satisfied if they won it during the State Playoffs.....from watching these games I just don't think they play as hard...plus you'll see players who may have been playing through an injury for the sake of the team in the State playoffs, hang it up for the season...you'll see a lot of kids that rode the benches get their well deserved playing time....they keep it loose. I see both sides, no kid is pumped about playing for the Prep Bowl, they want to play for State, but when you commit to these teams, you know its an option, so like I said above, tradition is tradition.

I like that it is around. Obviously not the major goal. Can keep season going, play young kids, finish off career with a W at SF and use as springboard for next year.

The Prep Bowl is about Catholic League Old Timers trying to revive the old days when the Catholic League only had to beat the CPS champ and then claim to be the best in the state. In today's state playoffs with competition from powerful programs like East St. Louis, Glenbard West, Maine South, Naperville North, Palatine, LWE, plus third place teams like Fremd this year and fourth place teams like Naperville Central in 2013, it is infinitely harder to win, especially in 8A -6A in which the CCL has only won two titles in the last 22 years. I can understand why the CCL Old Timers want to go back to the old days of easy CPS opponents only.

First of all the CCL didn't have many schools competing in 6A when 6A was the biggest class before going to 8 classes. Your facts are skewered in the wrong directions.
Are you really trying to argue the success of the CCL league in the state playoffs?

Mr Rainmaker ... Mt Carmel has won 12 state championships. Of these, two were at the highest level at that time; nine were one level down; and one was two levels down. We've lost five state championship games: two at the highest level at that time, and three at one level down. We lost in the semis in 1987 to East St Louis in the highest level.

In the seven years from 2006 to 2012, we competed in 8A playoffs.

Where do you get your facts?

Grow up

I hope Rainmaker never grows up. I love the hate. Think about it, he takes his time to come in to a purely CCL topic thread to post. As well as his north suburban teams have fared in these playoffs, I am so indifferent to them that I didn't even bother googling what conference his team(s) are in. I haven't even opened the MS Barrington thread and I like Swag U because they take a lot of heat also.

I like the posters who whine that this is a CCL board. Who cares? Just look at the views each thread gets. This thread is one of the most viewed threads and it has no teams in the title that are playing in the state tournament. I love it that the CCL goes 4 living generations deep and that it still matters to us till the day we die. HHSTiger used to post the CCL hate but it seems like he's moved on in his posts this year.

Rainmaker please come and post how the north suburban teams did this weekend in this thread so we can help your teams get some views. I'd hate to see the game result thread to be seen by only 200 people. And please, don't change, never stop hating, because if you hate at least you care.

I'll take some of the credit for that. I have programmed my Edgy settings to ignore him. He and I no longer get into the frequent back and forth anymore. I'm a much happier poster as a result.

The IHSA allows every single HS football program in Illinois to remain intact and practice all the way to the title games. That's five extra weeks. For those who claim the Prep Bowl playoffs give a handful of CCL schools an advantage over non-CCL schools that aren't in the playoffs or that get knocked out early, I call BS.

If you want to talk about the importance of the extra games, come and talk to me when your team is practicing without having games to play.

Actually IHSA says the complete. You can practice and have games/scrimmages against other schools. They won't be official games but you can do it until you are blue in the face.
Have your school/conference get organized until then don't hate on something you wish you had.

5.073 Contest Limitation

No Boys Football team representing a member school shall, in any one season, participate in more than nine (9) games exclusive of the IHSA series and exclusive of the City of Chicago Prep Bowl series, participated in by the Chicago Public League and the Chicago Catholic League.

Not sure where you got your information from. Not too many teams will have less than 9 games IF there were trying to make the playoffs to begin with.

Just in case someone wants to say scrimmage.

58) SCRIMMAGE AS CONTEST

Q. Is a scrimmage considered to be a practice or an interscholastic contest?
A. If a scrimmage involves exclusively students from one high school, it is considered to be practice. If a scrimmage

involves students from more than one high school, it is viewed to be an interscholastic contest and is subject to all rules pertaining thereto. (Constitution 1.420 & By-law 2.090)

Good stuff. Doesn't change my first post to you in this thread. Gather petitions and enact change. Or sit and whine. I don't care. How many rules or laws in all the different organizations in this country have been changed through organized action. Law books and rule books while static when interpreted at the time of a ruling are actually pretty dynamic or fluid guidelines. Just look at the NFL catch rule, who even knows what a catch is anymore.:)

Good luck on your fight. I'll sign your petition at change dot org when it's ready.

Oops. Forgot. Talking about state schools. That's right better to take something away from someone that isn't yours than to create action yourself. My bad.

Not that important to me. Something to discuss on the board, yes but, definitely something I wouldn't waste my energy on. As stated before, my opinion is ALL should be allowed to have a game or two.

To be clear, I stated that I don't have a problem with it at all. I suggested that others should be able to do the same.

Well we provide our BRTV free for our own home games- so no Cube subscription or access fees for either Rice fans or anyone else for that matter. So Rice fans don't have to sit in traffic, waste gas, find a babysitter in some instances, be cold, etc. So we give options to our fans and people like yourself - so I think the tradeoff is pretty generous don't you think?

Yes. Hats off to the kids and moderator who run it. Watched the BR MC game that way and was seriously impressed with the quality of the production. Very talented students and staff.

I did not know that it's been around for the last decade though.:D

Ha - that was a good one. As you know most of us Rice fans are typically out on our yachts or on ski trips to Steamboat or other black tie events (those Friday nite games can be so inconvenient for a dinner party)

Yes. Last line was a shot, can't resist but serious about BRTV comments. Pass along the thumbs up to those involved. I know how hard it is to pull off similar stuff seamlessly and they do an excellent job and only their families know who they are.

Brian Barkowski coordinates the Site - Ms Pacetti coordinates the Communications/Broadcasting class and teams that work the games. Seems like the kids have fun. Granted the BRTV does take away from some onsite attendance, but for alums like myself who live out of state - it's great - plus allows those who might get home late from work or have a kid sick at home to tune in (without getting nickled and dimes for a Cube broadcast that may have some technical issues) Thanks for the kudos - will make sure they see your comments Rock - good luck tonite

What's your problem with rice ?

Absolutely nothing. I love the healthy competition between the south side Blue schools. Tops and my exchange yesterday was good stuff. Different uniforms, same pews on Sunday, same passion for our alma maters. All good.

Nobody in their generation cares about the prep bowl and they shouldnt. Most of these kids are well involved in activities that just hanging around for a meaningless game to 'be with their teammates' is asinine. They don't want to play in this game, the coaches do and it's selfish, if it were up to the kids and a captains vote they would decline it, it just doesn't matter anymore. These kids play more than one sport and it takes away from practice for winter and spring sports that actually matter. And I can tell you they are tired of you trying to live or relive glory days through them.
Couldn't disagree more. You haven't stated one fact just opinion. As far as the coaches are concerned you couldn't be more off. The coaches do it for the players, you don't think they want to be home with their families that they haven't seen since July.

MC wins big. Those seniors remember that game winning field goal by Rita back early in season.

They won big, and even kept the 1st string in against Rita's 2nd team defense. And they couldn't score against them in the 2nd half. LOL.
Have fun in the toilet bowl where nobody cares!!

A little bit of the leadership money gets spent on the football team and the STL fan comes out to play.

Like Carmel doesn't throw money at its players. I saw the recruiting first hand with 2 family members, so just because Laurence is finally wising up, don't hate. Put the Kool aid down.

I agree with all mentioned above. I also think that everyone should have the same opportunity.

these weeks would also be great time for seeding/ranking your conferences in a 4tier system. and once you find your top 4 teams, in each tier from north/south/east/west. it is qtr/semi/ time.
it should be state wide.
