Free kicks are made to start halves, after scores (opponent of scoring team chooses who kicks... by rule), and after a fair catch or awarded fair catch (free kicks after fair catches can score if they go through the uprights)...<div>
</div><div>Scrimmage kicks can be made on any down and there are 3 legal scrimmage kick formations: Drop kick (rugby style), punt, and place kick. Any scrimmage kick can score (if you punt the ball through the uprights, it's 3 points). On the flip side, any scrimmage kick also behaves like a punt. So if you miss a FG from the 32, the ball does not stay at the 32, it goes to the 20 because it is essentially a punt that goes out of the back of the endzone (if it crosses the plane of the goal line). Also, that means if you miss a field goal from the 32 so bad, it rolls out at the 1, the other team gets the ball at the 1 yard line. Different from college and pro rules.</div><div>
