Is it a multi-year deal or year-to-year? If yearly, what keeps Byrne from not renewing it, regardless of what Sly says? I know there's been talk of the Head Coach being the only one to make personnel decisions regarding the staff. However, the AD must approve all contracts. I would tell Sly, "I'm not approving the offensive coordinator's contract in June" (or whenever it comes up). Then Croom can nut up or quit, in which case we wouldn't have to pay him either. Now, if it is, in fact, a multi-year deal, that's all out the window.

He'd always been on 1-year contracts until our glorious Liberty Bowl season after which he was rewarded with a $100,000 per year raise and a 2-year contract.

that means that he has a buyout clause as well?

I was hoping my increase in BC donations would help the baseball team out, but dang, it looks like football needs it more.

Croom's extension and the raises for all the assistants were agreed to in principle by LT. Greg had no choice but to follow through on the promises already made. That was Larry's final "<17> you" to the fan base.

Once you become the man the decisions are yours and yours alone. I don't buy that Greg had to do something because LT promised. That didn't prevent him from not hiring Raffo when it was rumored he had been promised the job. Greg made sure he received all of the publicity for negotiating Croom and the assistants contracts so he needs to take the responsibility when that turns out to have been a terrible decision. I can understand giving raises, etc. to coaches in demand but honestly where else were guys like Croom and Woody going to go? Nobody else wanted them therefore we didn't need to make the deals that we did.

on his part. I will say this though, greb wont be perfect...hell, he already hasnt been, and he is hard headed too, but he is better than LT and has the ship pointed in a different direction. He will spend spend spend and buy buy buy, look like this young hero to the rest of the country and then he will leave. Leaving us with a shitload of stuff to pay for(im not complaining because once the **** is in motion or built SOMEONE will get it paid for...period, you have to). You have to spend money to make money.

I disagree with your disagreement. Can you imagine the backlash that would have occurred if the media found out that our new, young Athletic Director refused to follow through with contracts already promised to the SEC Coach of the Year and his staff? Like it or not, but Greg's hands were tied on this one.
