any decent basketball coach that doesn't have MSU ties that shows significant interest should get major consideration...

For reference see Byrne, Greg, AD-MSU, in hiring, Mullen, Dan, Head Football Coach-MSU.

And next year when you have to go through this process to hire a new Baseball Coach, use the same references.....

Please enlighten me as to why he will need to hire a new baseball coach next year. Go ahead.

Just for future knowledge a Super Regional is a pretty big deal. That means you are in the final 16 teams left in college baseball, which in basketball might be known as the Sweet Sixteen but being a Stans supporter you probably don't know anything about that.

as for Cohen, I think you have to look at how he has matched up against the best in the league (SC, FL, LSU, AR, Vandy). He hasn't been competitive against the great teams. He got in one of the weaker regional's where the host team lost their first game to Austin Peay which made it a lot easier to win it. I think you have to evaluate the program as a whole (and it's probably too early to consider this year) since Cohen's been here. We don't stack up very well with the top teams in the league and that will always pose problem. We caught Ole Miss in a down year last year, we swept UT and they fire their coach and make a great hire in Serrano, we swept Auburn but they miss the tournament. We went two and out in the SEC tournament, beat Southern twice and GA tech once and you think we're on a great path? A Super is a big deal but we're no different than a mid major bball team that upsets someone to make the sweet 16. It provides for great memories but doesn't necessarily change the trajectory of the program (with few exceptions).

1) I think Baseball Fans at MSU can be more restless than Basketball FANS.

2) We have been in the lower 2 in the SEC West in baseball for several years now. A surprise trip to the Super Regional was unexpected but interesting none-the-less. However, his predecessor with the same "type" players went to the CWS.

3) Unfortunately for Cohen, he set the bar very high himself. 3 games do not make an SEC season, but do we think LSU is that much better this year than they were last year.

4) Cohen himself refuses to use the "11.7" scholarship limitation as an excuse, so he will be held accountable by end of year 5. Next year is year 5.

5) We cannot use the HOPE scholarship excuse either. (See LSU and Tennessee last year).

6) Kentucky is rolling now that they have overcome what Cohen left them 3 years ago.

7) Cohen said himself he recruits to Dudy Noble Field. That is fine for the non-conf. games, but we play as many SEC series away as we do at home. Gotta be able to play to their ball parks too.

8) Last year was last year. He had a bunch of seniors who weren't ready for season to end after SEC tourney. And....as someone else has stated, he got some breaks in the Regional after an 0-2 SEC tourney. So...counting the Super Regional last year, MSU was beaten 20 times by SEC opponents. THAT is what he has to overcome. And injuries or not, when you do not have a hitting instructor on staff, you ain't gonna just turn some of these guys into Tony Gwynn overnight.

And....as I stated, we are talking about next year as in 2013, as in after next season. He may surprise me and find some resilience when the 4 injured players return, but to win consistently in this league you gotta have Top 15 to Top 10 recruiting classes in multiple seasons. And then.....you have to have some luck. Losing 17 to 24 SEC games each year is not a recipe for keeping a JOB.
