Anybody else notice Memphis’ closer spit directly on the ball about three times after he came in from center before he warmed up? He wasn’t hiding it. The ump was standing there.
After a foul ball, I noticed he spit once on the new ball as well.
Now, he rubbed it all in, so he wasn’t loading one side or anything. He was just making the ball stickier for grip. But... is that legal?

I have never understood the need for baseball players, or any other men in general, to constantly spit.

(Insert obligatory swallow joke)

Noticed and wondered the same thing as you (that is, is it legal).

did you ever play a sport? dirt, air, and hustle make your saliva thick and needing to get out! same with adjusting crotch. cups get in the way of the wang. gotta move that thing around so you dont cut something off on a slick ground ball.

If memory serves me right, you're not even supposed to bring your hand to your mouth while you're on the mound much less spit on the ball. Sometimes during cold games, the umps will let the pitchers blow on their fingers while on the mound.
