PJ Jones has gotten caught inside a good bit on runs up the middle, but **** he's a true freshman. I'll wait till Cox and Boyd actually play a full game before declaring the D a bust. Nothing wrong with Broomfield and Banks tonight.
defensively we are breaking in a whole new set of linebackers and some new DEs all the while playing without our best player (Cox). Add to that I'm sure there is some adjustment with Diaz being gone this year. I sure didn't expect that everything defensively would go without a kink or two in the first game.
this is the first game and regardless of what Wilson said, we have held back on pressure a good bit tonight. I don't believe his quote about "vanilla."
Next week against Auburn will tell us what this season is going to look like.
Memphis IS better than they were last year. Their RBs and WRs are a lot better than they were last year. Our D does have some work to do, but hell it's the first game and take away a bad play call and this game is more out of hand than last year's. One thing I like though, I've seen more wrapping guys up this year than I remember seeing last year.
We certainly have some work to do on D, but I would like to think we will improve. We have done that every year. We may only beat 2 SEC West teams this year, but that will be enough to make this season successful if we win the other games we should.
and not a complete and utter blowout we might have something to really worry about. 2-3 in SEC West could be really good depending on what happens in other games. We can win 4 SEC games out of the 8 we play. If we do that and win our non-conf games, then it's a good season to me.
