I hope the Irish throw a bazillion dollars at Coarch Irvin Meyers to try to lure him to South Bend once they fire that fatass "offensive genius" Weis. He is one hell of a great coach and human being on top of it.

he knows there isnt a better job in all of college football....but if he somehow did, Mullen could easily be his replacement.

Weis is one loss away from a pink slip. If all that happened, there's no way Florida goes after Mullen. 3-4 years from now, definitely a possibility. UF can get whoever they want, and that will not be a guy who's been a head coach for 1 year. They will go after and get a proven head coach.

I think what Meyer (sp) said is a hell of a lot different than what coaches were saying about croom.

Those coaches were usually saying nice things about that idiot after they had beat his *** something like 45-0.

There no patronizing now.

I agree. My impression was that Meyer was sincere in his comments and that he was very impressed with the job Mullin has done here so far. Meyer may be thinking, "Maybe I trained this guy a little too good."

Anything positive said about Croom was political correctness at its sickest.

for Notre Dame fans is that the decision to stay independent will ultimately be their downfall. They could have easily gotten into any conference they wanted when everyone was shuffling the decks a few years ago but they put the money ahead of long-term interests (ah la Georgia Tech).Now, I'm not by any means saying they are going to collapse or anything, they have way too many fans for that, I'm just saying they don't have the ability to pull someone like Myer out of Florida. The SEC is the best conference in America and while tough, if you win your conference it's pretty much a instant shot at the National Championship. (Not to mention who would leave the climate of Gainsville to go to South Bend?)

Notre Dame had a lot of power when the BCS was first built and they managed a sweetheart deal. If the BCS gets reformed, which is looking possible, then Notre Dame is going to get screwed because their past history sucks and the power conferences don't have room for them. The biggest talk is of teams having to win a conference championship in order to make the BCS. Where do the Irish fit in there? Will be interesting to see.

could go to the Big 10 (11) or the Big East, and I bet both conferences would welcome them with open arms. If it were up to me, I would put them in the Big 10, but I would have to say that they will likely end up in the Big East. If they go to the Big 10 for football, they could have a championship game.

Their TV deal is what's messing things up for everyone. They think that they can stay viable as an independent as long as they have that deal in place, and any conference that is considering taking them in is going to have to deal with that. Their hand could very well be forced if they get squeezed out of the BCS, though because they would have a real hard time trying to convince blue chips to go play for a school that has no chance at a NC.

Not true. They have the money to lure anyone they want. And lets be honest - it is all about money 99% of the time. Climate? Really? Besides that, Urban (named after a Pope) Meyer is a good Catholic boy, which is still a huge deal. I think he would go to ND. He has no real ties to Florida, and he's accomplished everything you possibly can there. Already won 2 NC's. Tebow is gone - not that they are going to drop off massively, but they will not be a top 5 team more than likely, at least to start. As close to "rebuilding" as you can get at UF. ND has more money than God to throw at him.

And are you telling me that if ND goes 12-0, they won't be 1 or 2 in the BCS? Puh-leaze. Iowa has beaten one decent team all season, and they are #6. Iowa. Hell, our own Bulldogs rose as high as #7 in 1999 when we were 8-0 despite squeaking out wins over 3 ****** teams in the last second (LSU, Auburn, UK). Conference affiliations are more about money nowadays than anything else. Why would ND want to share TV and bowl revenue? That would be incredibly dumb of them.

ND used to have way more money than anyone else due to the TV contract, but that is not the case with EVERY SEC school now making more than them. I'm not saying they can't afford Myer, I'm saying he would be an idiot to go to ND, and he's not an idiot. The Irish simply do not have the ability to pay more than anyone else to get the best coach anymore. If it is all about money he will be staying at Florida. The weather thing was mostly a joke but I have found with my own parents that as people get older that climate stuff does matter. Being a god in Gainsville, Florida can not be a bad thing. I would much rather be around Florida hotties when walking around campus than those South Bend, Indiana hags.

Oh, and where did you get me saying ND has no shot at the BCS? I'm not crazy. With the way the press fellates the Irish they are usually right behind USC as the highest ranked # loss team in the nation. If they were undefeated they would absolutely be in the National Championship under CURRENT BCS rules. The point was if they change the BCS to require a conference championship to make the national title game then Notre Dame is out. And to fix it they would have to join a conference and there is no power conference to join. The Big 11 and the Big East aren't exactly power conferences although they do have BCS tie-ins. Joining those conferences would cause the Irish to suffer because their SoS would drop. Conference affiliations are about money but they are also about power. Look at the discussion around the national championship. The SECCG winner (assuming they are not a 2 loss team) is going to play in the BCS National Championship. That is because of the perceived strength of the conference.

I realize that as a Notre Dame homer you have absolutely no ability to rationally discuss them so I'm sorry I tried. The shine is off the Golden Dome after these horrible years. There is still a lot of love out there but they simply do not have the power they had when the BCS was new. If Urban is a huge Catholic and has always dreamed about coaching there then sure, they could snag him. If he wants to keep winning National Championships though he should stay right where he is. The entire point was that staying independent, while it looked good at the time, may ultimately turn out to be a mistake.

ND has fans and haters. There is no gray area. You're a hater, which is cool. But it also prevents you from discussing things rationally, if you believe I'm not being rational. ND can still get anyone they want. At the time, hiring Charlie Weis was a pretty big deal. Turned out to be not a great hire, but don't kid yourself into thinking ND can't get back into the spotlight quickly.

If they go 12- 0 those bastards, regardless of strength of schedule will go to the BCS Championship game.
Generally speaking, their schedule does not deserve it, they play about two or three games a year.
Maybe they should get in the league with Boise St.
