If what is out is true and it appears to be just the tip of the iceburg, how big of a hammer will the NCAA drop on Southbeach? This is unbelievable, after reading just a little bit of it. Coaches bringing recruits over to Shapiro's house is as blatant as it gets! And the fact is they've still sucked for the most part with all of this going on.

Will this finallyblow the top off of cheating in college athletics?

This story is beyond ridiculous... can't wait to see what the NCAA says about it. Probably something along the lines of "well Miami U didn't know it was going on, so we can't punish him".

So It's not going to happen, considering the five year rule.
Besides the NCAA, after SMU... will be more than somewhat hesitant to give the death penality.

the affect of these revelations on the coaches that were directly implicated by Shapiro as knowing about what he was doing. Jeff Stoutland is the OL coach at Bama now. Joe Pannunzio is the Director of Football Operations at Bama now. Aubrey Hill is the WR coach at Florida. Clint Hurtt is the DL coach at Louisville. If these guys were in on Shaprio's ****, it can impact their current situations.

These revelations serve to illustrate in no uncertain terms that the business of college football is dirty to its core. I now believe Vanderbilt is dirty.

if they are in the "Repeat Offender" window, but I don't recall Miami being on probation lately. Hell, no one was. The NCAA seems to be coming off a nice little 8 year vacation.

if i remember the Sherill standard correctly, then it applies if they were on probation at any time from then to now.

for a long time now. After the way they have overlooked blatant cheating and scandals just in the last few years. The way they've handled things, taking their sweet time, setting precedents such as in the Cam Newton saga, and so on. They have been wrist slapping long enough and now they may be in over their heads. And for Shapiro to say that the cheating in Miami is small compared to what goes on in the SEC is interesting. Will the NCAA now be forced to act on what it knows about the Auburn's of the world? What heads will roll first in Southbeach? No longer can the NCAA sit and act as if they know not of any wrongdoings in college sports.

I was against Congress stepping in on the MLB issues, but I feel like there isn't any way possible they don't step in after this issue. Not only is there apparent lack of institutional control at a lot of universities, but there also appears to be a lack of institutional control within the governing conferences and national institutions, that are responsible for maintaining institutional control.

I don't know if you are kidding or not. But Vandy and their 1st year HC are pulling some impressive recruits, the likes of which Vandy has rarely if ever seen.

An interesting little snippet from the FOIA the crazy hog fans used to get Nutt's phone records. Seems the Right Reverend had some dealings with 'Little Luke' himself. This appears to be at the time that Hootie was angling for the Miami job. It would lend more credence to Shaprio being influential if Nutt thought he could help him land the gig. One also has to wonder if the relationship ended there or if a few Miami players might have been influenced to come north after a few boat rides.
Also I find it funny that Nutt begged for the Miami job and Mullen turned it down.

so embarrassing for houston. the fact that he would call some douche booster in miami to campaign for the job is so 17ing hilarious. further proof, if you even needed it, that nutt is only about nutt and doesnt really believe any of the ******** he spews at his press conferences. 50!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

As I have written earlier it is time for the NCAA to get out of the players pockets. If they can earn money and benefits due to their celebrity it should not be the NCAA's job to prevent it. They just need to prevent the school itself from setting up anything to filter money to players. They would still need to police things like bounties and gambling.

I was told that this would cause the big schools to have an unfair advantage. Well Miami, a big and popular school, was doing all this stuff and it did not lead to success on the field. Other teams are being caught in these scandals and have had success. Well if players could earn extra money and benefits at all schools, then those who are willing to allow it now, would not have the advantage they have had due to playing loose with the rules.

If you bring this thing all above board and allow players to have NCAA certified agents, it will be like any other business.You would think the government could use some more tax revenue.

With it all being under the table, there is no chance to collect anything. It is made dirty because the NCAA forces it to be dirty. If the players could legally make money, most will try and do it legally. Those that try to keep it under the table, will actually be breaking the law and would be subject to actual punishment.

there are a lot of "transactions" going on that could indeed be taxable. I'm surprised the IRS has not already gotten their nose under this tent.

On ESPN radio when he was talking about everything he'd done. It was on the radio yesterday, but can't remember which show.

Edit to add: It was something along the lines of "Miami is a private school that doesn't have much money and the cheating that goes on there is nothing like the big money public universities of the SEC." He said something to that effect, but don't quote me on exact accuracy.
