Great coach. Better person. He can have Georgetown or ND. His call. Tough decision, but he is well connected in South Bend. Kudos to him.Penn State will slip very quickly.
PSU likely going to take a bit of a slide next season once these players move on.

I hate PSU as much as the next guy, but they’ve done a solid job building the program up at a university where basketball is an afterthought.

Penn States success is 100% because of their coach. He should be on the first plane out of there once their season ends.

They just don’t care about bball at Penn st. Go to Notre dame where there is also little pressure and beat up the ACC. Would like him out of the conference

PSU is losing everyone so if he stays he will need to kill the portal
Agreed. He’s a great coach on pike’s trajectory (we also were a 10 seed who beat a 7 once). But I think they have more talent than we ever did and basically all of them are 5th year seniors except Lundy who’s a 4th year. They can certainly play with Texas like we did with Houston (sorry for bringing it up)

I thought after our 2nd half comeback he made a lot of comments hard on his players that could have led to the season going exactly opposite. Frankly, I think he got lucky, especially with a super experienced team. Not sold this works in any other scenario, and think this season is getting him inflated reviews, but time will tell with another non senior laden program.

He didn't get lucky. He's a good coach who knew his team and gave them exactly what they needed. Excellent coaching move that I said at the time

After losing being down 19 it's no sure thing to ride a defeated team whose prospects for NCAA were dwindling at that time. It worked, but it's not certain in didn't work in spite of the risky maneuver.

He's been a head coach all of two years. Last season was 14-17.

This year they had a great end of season, with a second team ALL AMERICAN.

And the most experienced and best 3 pt shooting team. An argument can be made one SHOULD succeed with that makeup. Where is the he is a good coach coming from with only two different seasons of data coming from? I know the announcers really talked him up and he's the current flavor based on Pickett and B10 run, but the data is thin, and per above, can be looked at quite differently from an objective view point. Let's see what he does with next year's PSU team or if gets Georgetown to the top half of conference before he's exalted. He may be, it's just early and this PSU team may be it's own unique tjhing.

I think Shrewsberry is a decent coach but he also hit the transfer jackpot with Pickett and Funk. Hard to replicate that, but I do think wherever he goes will have a decently high floor.

Pike's teams have beat him the last, what, 3 times we played them? Good coach, great personality, but he can stay if he wants, he don't scare me. Clearly doesn't scare Pike either.
He shouldn’t scare us. Question is, is he a desirable candidate for these two openings? The answer is yes. As BAC stated, these two openings are potentially better jobs than where he is today. He will take one. I believe it to be ND

Count me in the camp of being surprised if he were to leave for either job.
Richie said on ATE that he thinks he’ll be at PSU next season. He might be setting his sights higher than another football school and I’m not sure I regard Georgetown as better than PSU. They were a great program for the Ewing years and merely a good program thereafter. Maybe his plan is to get PSU up to look like Iowa or Illinois (perennially dancing) before leaving.

I almost hate to say it, but college basketball is better when Georgetown is a good team. If he wants to go to a school where hoops rules the roost, G-town is the place. ND is too much like PSU. Football is king. Most of the fan base couldn't care less about hoops. Shaka Smart learned that at Texas.

I personally think Penn state just needs a good coach.
It seems like PU has plenty of money for sports, all sports, if they put their mind to it
If their bb coach is a winner, overpay him to keep him
Do what it takes
The university should want to keep this guy
I think they can

The basketball world overreacts to success and to failure. Micah seems to be a good coach. He is trending upwards now with an impressive run into the post season. Just a few weeks ago when they were projected as last 4 out folks were saying he’s overrated and too one dimensional relying on transfers shooting 3’s. That their early season success was a fluke and they normalized to the lower regions of the Big before these last several games.

The same folks were preparing a throne for Pike at mid-season, but are now giving him a short rope for next year.

Yo-Yo reactions everywhere 😉

If he is going to move this is the year to go, loses 4 out of 5 starters, they definitely will take a step back. It won’t be about money, PSU can and will match, just depends on whether he wants to stay where he is or shoot for a higher profile program. ND would be the odds on favorite as he is an Indiana/ midwestern guy.
They caught lightening in a bottle this year will be hard to replicate

From a GTown buddy who’s an alum and big booster. His cronies are hearing they want Cooley from Providence as their 1st choice. Not sure why Cooley would leave Providence but I’m sure money talks!
