Magical against tough oponents, completely out of it at times against lesser opponents.

random thoughts because I don't think we need another thread...

Looking back, this run of non-NCAA births (save the run through the SEC tourney) started with Bost, Ravern, and Kodi. This year was a last ditch effort to save four years of poor recruiting, and while Bost and Moultrie seemed to click on set lobs, there was just never a chemistry on the floor. I think we all assumed Bost was the leader of this team, but I personally never felt he ever took control of it and played the role of a good team leader. Mixing Renardo in there didn't help at all either. The last decent run were Rhodes and Gordon's last two years. Sure, there was some turmoil, always is. But when they stepped on the court, you knew it was those two guys in charge. Love or hate the way they played at times, it was their team. Nobody has taken control of this team in the last three years.

I liked what I saw out of Steele last night, and I've liked a lot of what he's shown this year. He may not ever be the best on the floor, but I see an opportunity for him to take control of the team next year. And I hope he can get to Lewis. I think he could be very good if someone would put some effort into lighting a fire under him. Maybe Steele will do that.

And yes, ata higher level it is the coaches job to see that this stuff happens. He needs to recruit and build a player up to assume control of a team. Then, at some point, that player has to stop looking up to a coach for leadership and take over himself. The last three years have been a complete failure at both.</p>

He just doesn't have a high IQ for basketball. There is no doubt he makes plays that make you say where has that been all season but then you see him always out of position or make a dumb play like when he ran over the player last night setting the screen for Steele. He looked like a fullback taking on a LB.... That's why next year no matter who is coaching is going to be a long year

And I still think if we don't lose Hood we win that KY game and would have been 3-1 against the top teams. Frustrating year to be a fan for sure.

He was a true freshman. Let that sink in. A true freshman. Not only that, but he was forced to play 34 minutes a game because of Stansbury playing him that long. To me I think he will BECOME the leader we want, but it will take time. It probably won't happen until his junior/senior year (which is when itis supposed to happen). But I agree that there were no leaders on this team and we have had no leaders on this team for quite some time. I am not sure why Sidney was saying we have no heart considering he was a big reason why A) we have not heart and B) the team looks like they don't care. This really all comes down to the "Sidney" factor. Stans hooked his cart to this horse and it will ultimately lead to his downfall.

Unfortunately it isn't consistent. They get motivated for the good teams and then just play down to their competition in other games. Great coaching would solve that problem.

He never has. Throughout his tenure, I have never seen the guy get in the faces of players and really try to motivate them. That is just not who he is as a coach so he has relied on players to do this for him. Since we have had no leadership for the past say 5 years, his teams have really underachieved. Heck, Vernado and Stewart weren't leaders either which is why those teams underachieved as well. If they had played like they were capable of playing, they wouldn't have had to win the SEC tourney in 2009 to get in the tourney. Stans hasn't changed the way he has coached but he hasn't had the player leadership it takes to win and stay consistant. I am thinking that the Kirby factor is much bigger then people think. I think Kirby might have been the behind the scenes guy and bad cop to Stans' good cop routine. Whatever it is IMO, Stans should go.
