Might as well just go back into retirement, Maineri!

The most disappointing part, other than losing 3 games, was the lack of fight in this team.
Where was the refuse to lose attitude?

I think it will take 2 more recruiting classes to rebuild this team.Unless there are some examples I’m not aware of it’s very difficult to rebuild a baseball team through the portal. You can add a few players here and there but I think HS and JUCO recruiting still the preferrrd way to go.

No doubt you have to get some HS guys but I’m not sure it’s possibly to build exclusively from HS any longer. We have to get some solid transfers and hopefully no more from Clemson. I think that’s what makes me mad the most…we lost to them and we’ve taken so many of their former players in the past few years. Enough.

This recruiting cycle will tell us the story. We have to recruit well, on the HS / JUCO level and out of the portal.

Why? Is it as simple as Tanner is no longer in the dugout?
Tanner hasn’t been in the dugout for 13 years. Our teams gradually lost that edge. Under Holbrook we had far more talent, probably more than even the Tanner years. In those years we never had a Scott Wingo or Adrian Morales kind of guy with some real grit. We pumped guys into MLB draft but never got to Omaha. What edge there was got wiped out by Kingston. He was average in every way…boring as hell.

No guarantee we’re getting back to where we were. Stadium is 16 years old and other schools have since upgraded facilities and blown past us. We’re behind and playing catchup now.

As I mentioned in a post about a month ago, UGA is adding some "corporate suites" down the left field line at Foley Field.

What upgrades do any of you think need to be made at Founders Park to stay in the race?

Personally, I think we are going to struggle in all sports with NIL.

I have a friend that is from Columbia that was transferring out of a program. USC wanted him and went after him hard. His parents are both USC grads and he is a USC fan. They made a modest NIL offer. He said the recruiting trip was a disaster (keep in mind this was between coaches). Very unorganized. They were making phone calls in front of him trying to organize his visit while on campus.

He visited another SEC school. They laid out the red carpet. Uniform with name on it, itinerary and a $300k NIL deal. USC wasn't even close in the NIL space. He is now a starting pitcher for an opponent in the SEC this spring.

This is what we are up against. Corporate suites won't help unless this income is goint to NIL.

How many USC fans are able to increase their NIL giving?

What a depressing read! Not saying you're wrong--you're not, but that's depressing to come to grips with. We had our run, now it's over & likely never to return.

Sounds like In Viennacock's opinion, our facilities are good enough, but there's a need for better internal adminstration. I was thinking more in terms of the physical plant, butb it definitely sounds like something which needs to be addressed.

Ray Tanner recruited a lot of JC guys
I think O’Sullivan gets a lot of those JUCO guys from Florida now. We used to rack up from those Florida schools. It has been a while since that’s been the case and I’ve always assumed Sully made it a point to follow the success Tanner had with guys from place like Santa Fe…literally right there in Gainesville.

It can return. Just have to get the right guy in here. We made a great hire if it was college baseball 20 years ago. Of course it’s also to set up Monte Lee. I’m assuming Marineri is handling the coaching while Lee figures out the NIL stuff. I just can’t see a coaching coming out of retirement at his age to have to deal with all of that. When you look at it for what it really is, this thing is destined to fail. Only a matter of time before there is a power struggle or the players choose sides…

I really hope I’m wrong. I truly do. If I’m not, I think we now have an AD that will make a smart hire. Need some new blood in this program. None of Tanner’s assistants have ever been near the quality of Ray Tanner.

Unless we win BIG, handing this team over to Monte Lee would be a huge mistake. Wasn’t impressed with his Clemson teams and not impressed with what he’s brought to this team in the few years since his return.

Put this in a memo & send it to our Italian Stallion AD.

Someone has recruited baseball players who cannot hit a baseball.

Yea we lost to Clemson but still plenty of season left. I am still optimistic we can make the post season.
