kidding.

BBQ nachos kick *** with a good buzz. Though I do wish we didn't use Corky's, I'm not really a fan of theirs.

Coach who did not play for the Bear - Check
1941 National Title - Check
Dreamland Ribs - Check
What does that leave us to accomplish to become like Bama?
Having a majority of our fans who did not go to college, much less high school.

Alabama football radio broadcast played on the intercom at the Lodge - check

They may not still do that as State has finally gotten a good-long pregame show. However, I will never forget being in Starkville before a football game, shopping for MSU garb, and listening to Eli Gold calling the Gumps.

Dreamland isn't the best option for bbq over there. And I'd rather have a couple of local places. But, so be it

Really lived up to your name under your name didn't you?

Why not Lil Dooey's?

Dreamland is not all that........

+1 or in your case +2

I haven't had Lil Dooey's in years, but back in the late 80's it was pretty good.

I would prefer some Neely's Interstate BBQ or someone else out of Memphis...

However, Lil' Dooeys suuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuucks. It might be the absolute worst BBQ I have ever put in my mouth.

Ever.

I thought I was the only one that was not impressed. I never understood why everyone loved it. I actually like Dreamland, to each his own.

But LD's Q is nothing to write home about (because home has Abe's, for one thing). Their sides are solid, though, and they have the best catfish in Starkville. Also good ribs.

But to say it sucks is just as wrong as saying it's the best. It's fairly good. I've had a lot better and I've had a lot worse.

Little Dooey's used to be the best around but have rapidly descended into less than mediocre since the early '90's. I believe they changed ownership sometime around then and that changed everything.

I like the pulled pork better than the ribs ...

In Jackson I like The Hickory Pit, Chimneyville, & Big D's Tepee BBQ...

As a certified BBQ judge (Memphis in May and Memphis BBQ Network), I can tell you that Dreamland's ribs wouldn't even place in a real contest. They use the cheapest, toughest, stringiest ribs they can buy, then cook them hot and fast over direct heat. All you get is a tough, crunchy crust of meat on a huge bone.

While I personally don't like Corky's spice blend, they do use a much better quality rib and cook it low and slow, the way it should be. Neely's is a good rib too.

Like so much else in Tuscaloosa, the Dreamland mystique is nothing more than one more myth about "The Coach". That old bastard may have been a good coach, but he didn't know **** about a rib.

i remember when they used to just cut a hole in the top of a loaf of sunbeam and put the whole loaf on the table. the bread + sauce appetizer is tough to beat.

dreamland hasn't been the same since the late 90s. the family sold out sometime around then, i think. </p>

out of Northport. Or Morris BBQ from just outside of Starkville. But neither of them produce on a scale like Dreamland. That in itself is the reason you'll never get the best BBQ at a college football game these days... mass production. I bet Dreamland used to taste a lot better, like Lil' Dooey before they sold out.

As far as sauce goes I've never tasted better than Archibald's. It's got some kick. And ol' George makes everything right in front of you. The beauty of BBQ is that there's so many varieties and traditions that cater to different tastes that it's nearly impossible to judge. But we still try...

Leatha's is one of the best in the South
Rendezvous in Memphis is just killer
The Shed in Ocean Springs is pretty damn good

The best ribs i every had was at a Memphis in May few years ago when Panic played
There was a Willinghams World Champion Bar-B-Que stand they had all these World Champion Banners all over the place
and believe me they did not disappoint or maybe it was just the strong acid. Who knows? but it was damn good hehe

But, I cannot think of any I have had that is worse.

The ribs taste like they were boiled and have not been in the same county as a smoker.

It's average. I have had much, much worse. Dreamland is average also. Central BBQ and The BBQ Shop in Memphis are head and shoulders (rimshot) above the rest.

I think what happens is that Yankees wind up ranking BBQ. That's why Dreamland (average) and Rendezvous (average) are always at the top. They are just basing it on reputation. Kirk Herbstreit is the one who started jizzing about Little Dooey. He's from effing Ohio, what the hell does he know about BBQ?
