He’s not being talked about for any P4 HC jobs. Only jobs I’ve read him linked to are UAB and Arkansas St. We can pay him more as OC. His downfall at Ok St was resistance to NIL. That wouldn’t be his problem as OC. Long track record of successful offenses. Even in a down year last year, they put up 12 ppg more than we are this year.

I’m not sure Beamer is secure enough to bring on a longtime successful former HC though.

I’d give it 0% chance, but we could do (indeed, are doing) a lot worse.

Yeah, that’s why I mentioned the secure aspect for Beamer. Although the most likely scenario is that the whole staff would go whenever Beamer goes. Gundy knows a thing or two about offense.

I doubt Gundy will be a head coach at this level again. I certainly wouldn't consider him a successor if next year's team was unsuccessful with him as our OC. As to whether he is interested in being a coordinator, would work for Beamer, or if Beamer would set his sights that high, I have no idea, but I think I'd take him as an OC in a heartbeat.

Saban managed to work with Kiffin. For one reason: Not because they had great personal chemistry; Saban knew Kiffin could help him win a title. And he was right.

I don't know about Beamer's ego, but I think he might feel too insecure to bring him in.

He should already be financially set for life. Take a 50% pay cut and put that money towards new staff.

His family might have to tighten their belts on $4 million/yr in SC, but I think they could scape by.

Yes. Saban also had the credentials. He had former head coaches working as analysts. I think this is Beamer's major handicap when looking for assistants. Most assistants are looking to go somewhere they can be professionally developed. They want a head coach they can learn from.

Not being mean, but what does Beamer have to teach anyone? I think he's a great guy and I like him, but he just doesn't have the credibility that I think a lot of assistants are looking for.

This is possibly where someone like Gundy could fit. He's 58 and has already had a long, successful head coach career, so I don't think he's looking for a lot of professional development like an up and coming assistant. But I think he'd have a VERY hard time going from head coach to an assistant for a newbie like Beamer.

I think he has emotional issues. Look at him on the sideline during a game. There are times he looks totally unhinged. His hysteria goes far beyond regular emotions of a coach in a game.

I don't think Gundy called the offensive plays as head coach, or at least hasn't in awhile. I don't know that he'd be a great hire.

I dunno. He's an offensive guy though. It's not a mistake that they mostly had good offenses with him as HC. Just like Alabama's defense when Saban was head coach.
