We need a young energetic coach who will develop players not sit on a pulpit demanding compliance !! The Coaches In there need to be cleaned out...clear that deck.

The bad

We are 121 worst defense, so Ruffin gets us a little better, we can't get much worse. Then we see improvement but not championship, level. I see LR keeping him. I do not see McNeil as the guy to take us to the our next NC.

We need a Bud Foster or the D coordinator at Auburn if the staff gets fired

The players will immediately respond to this.

I expect to see new energy and attitude in 2 weeks. Let's just hope the loss wasn't so damaging we can't find our way back to the playoffs.

I think Lincoln will bring in someone younger and more dynamic. Gotta be able to play the social media butt kissing game with kids these days.

It is going to be Diaco... with Ruff keeping his current position.

Hope this move lights a fire under the current boys a$$. Lincoln gets to bring in a hand picked young, energetic recruiter. They get to build a new culture around the defense.

It has been noted on here that firing MS could hurt committed recruits. What if it’s the opposite? What if he has been weighing down the defensive recruiting also? Recruits are watching the same D with same scheme we have been watching that doesn’t set them up for success. Here’s hoping this move helps future recruiting by the shear fact that MS is gone, even before it helps with whoever they bring in.

Put in a base 4-3 with a nickel package immediately. Nothing overly complicated, just let the players play.

Until we coach our guys to tackle, it won't matter much what scheme we play.

On another note, do you think a DC from another major school would take a lateral move to be OU's defensive coordinator in the offensively crazy Big 12? Maybe we take a position coordinator from a school that actually plays defense.

Don’t expect Jesus Christ to come abroad. It may take a while but at least we’re not just accepting the same old, same old.

Wow. Wow wow wow. Man, this is our big chance!

We get the right guy in at D coordinator, and we will win a natty or two with LR running the O! I really believe that!

Not that I can remember. I do think it is the right move at this time considering it appears that he has also lost the players on that side of the ball. When you have a player almost walking out at halftime that is not good.

I wonder if there was talk that he had lost the players. I'm sure there are some that still supported him, but there HAD to be some that were restless.

Nail in the coffin IMO.

I hate to hate a Stoops but man he earned it. He failed and refused to accept blame until he knew his *** was grass.

As a Husker fan I’ve always kept up with OU for whatever reason...guess I still wish for the rivalry to be renewed. Anyway...I hope for your programs sake that Bob Diaco has changed his stance when it comes to defensive philosophy. His bend but don’t break defensive system was brutal last year at NU. Now, granted the upgrade in talent will be night and day but I can’t believe OU will have to settle for him long term. Good luck to you fellas the rest of the way and good luck in the eventual rematch with the Horns.

Who almost walked out at halftime? When? Missed this.

Buzzy Bolton nearly walked out as frustration boiled over. Something tells me others were in same state of mind. Frustrated and embarrassed both. The DB coach should be let go tomorrow. His coaching earns a big fat F.

Does Mike benefit more financially being fired rather than resigning? I can't imagine he would rather be fired than resign.

You know after the game and the bus ride home it had to spread. I wouldn't be surprised if more then a few wanted to pack up and leave

Diaco and Cooks were on the Irish staff that pretty much shut down OU's offense in Norman. That said, that offense was led by Blake Bell so it wasn't one of our more prolific ones.

It was Landry's senior year, 2012. That was the year that we had major issues in short yardage & Heupel came up with the 'Dozer set. Unfortunately, that was not the year to be weak up front against Notre Dame; they had some major horses that year (Tuitt, Nix, & Teo off the top of my head) in their front 7. They were in cover 3 & 4 for the majority of the game thanks to our running game giving them absolutely no reason to think about their DB's having to come up. Saunders went nuts on the shallow/intermediate stuff, but nobody could get behind them.

I agree completely. From what it looked like the kids just didn't play for him.

Defense backs cannot look good if the quarterback has enough time in the pocket to circumcise a baby elephant. OU's pass rush sucks.
BTW, Diaco will call the defensive schemes even though McNeil is the DC.
