Midseason, many on this board were ready to name their firstborn after Dr. Mike. They have an exciting offense. No doubt. But currently losing to Baylor on their homefield.

My point is this: with all the whoop-de-doo offenses and coaches of the moment out there, I want someone who understands that in the SEC, that is all well and good, but you have to HIT SOMEBODY IN THE MOUTH ON EVERY PLAY FOR 4 QUARTERS, to win here. You can put up 45 points a game, but if you come with some weenie SWAC style ole defense, and you can't run the 17 over people and take their will to go on out of them (like Ole Miss did to us ruthlessly yesterday) you won't win. Period.

I actually think Croom understood this REALITY. He just couldn't make it happen (again when he had to).

28-28 and Tech just got a pick.

You do understand that Tech is 10-1, right? About to go 11-1, since they are now moving through Baylor like **** through a goose.

Your and idiot.

If you seriously have this mindset, then there is no helping you. This is not 1974. Look how Florida is destroying people. HINT: They aren't lining up in a Power-I. And, by the way, Texas Tech's defense has been decent this year, except the Oklahoma debacle. And when you are scoring 50 points a game, decent is good enough to roll 11 wins up.

No surprise. I'm not against innovative offenses. Fact is, I am for them. However, it gets leveled up in the SEC. It has to be innovative plus Uber physical. Case in point. Yesterday. Nutt's offense is somewhat innovative, but he also just old-fashioned whipped the **** out of us - man on man.

All I am saying, no matter the offensive philosophy of the incoming coach, is that he understands this.

If YOU don't understand that, then you're an idiot. And I suspect you are. But I really don't know you, so whatever.

I think what vandaldawg is trying to say, is that SEC defenses negate some of the effects of creative passing offenses due to speed & talent. Therefor in the SEC, you have to have the ability to play some 'productive' smash mouth football to keep an SEC defense honest.

Somewhat the reverse of our offense the past 5 years, all we had was somewhat of a run game, but never could do anything w/ the passing game to keep the defense honest, so we mostly saw a stacked box.

is that's what they've always said about the Big 12.

To use Tech struggling with Baylor today as evidence for some grander point and ignore their other 10 wins is just laughable. Tech, OU and Texas have proven that the wide-open style of offense can work in any BCS league. Urban Meyer has proven that his wide-open style works just fine in the SEC, thank you.

add Mizzou (despite their loss today)...they've had the best 4 year run in a very long time. Their innovative O had a lot to do with that.

However, it still comes down to having a lot of really good players. Bama doesn't have a spread or anything particularly innovative and they are 12-0. </p>

.....I could care less if we even field a team on defense....really...im just tired of going to really boring football games. I understand the skill people at state may not be on the level of say a TT or an OU, and UF. Im just ready to have a team that'll score a few points a game. Its almost gotten to the point that a 55-50 loss every week would be ok.
